4th Friday Home Game Night: Flint, Michigan

This blog shares a bit about what goes down at my home game group. I'll write about what worked and what didn't and thoughts about games played. I decided to start a monthly game group at home to get more people interested in gaming and to get more games to the table. I'm a family man with a 2 year old daughter at home so it's tough to give up another night away from home so my wife and I settled on the idea of started a regular group in our home. We love having new people in our home and love the social space gaming creates. Feel free to subscribe and share your thoughts and ideas! We're new at this to every little bit helps!

Game night was a little sparse this month. My wife and her sister were the only ones who showed up! This was okay because they happen to be two of my favorite gaming partners. It was spring so I guess the nice weather was pulling people away from our hermit-like gathering.

Since it wasn't officially a game night as much as it was a family get-together, my wife demanded that we only play games she already knew how to play. As much of a trooper as she is in supporting my hobby and even taking part in the world of gaming, she hates learning new games. This is especially true for her if the sun is down.

So we only got 2 games to the table since it was getting a little late when we finally started playing. We played Glen More first. This has been one of the new favorites for my wife and I. I like the tile placement mechanic mixed with the total freedom of choosing where to place your marker on the action track. The game seems to be heavily decision driven. It seems like a gamer's game with a family game length to me.

Carolyn's, my wife Lisa's sister, didn't hold back when she gave her 2 cents.... She said it was "boring"! I couldn't believe it! But, oh well, she doesn't have to like every game I buy.

Next, since it was getting even later we brought Dominion to the table. I was super excited to show my sister-in-law all the fun Lisa and I have been having with Dominion: Prosperity. I love the big money and crazy victory points available with this expansion. It's my favorite of the bonus sets so far. I think we'll be playing it for a long time to come.

It was a quiet night but at least we got some gaming in. Hopefully the low turnout doesn't continue into the future.
