Who's the more foolish? The fool or fool that plays after the fool?

There were 4 of us today, which expands the possible games by quite a bit, so I asked what we wanted to play. Rick helpfully replied "something good" so I made a quick list of games we had that played under an hour for 4. Several of the list were nixed (we'd just played Modern Art recently, J hates Tichu, Race for the Galaxy makes Tom's head hurt, etc), but the top-ranked among them - Dominion - was not, so that was what we played.
Random mix of kingdom cards, from the base game, as well as Prosperity and Seaside: Native Village, Smuggler, Monument, Salvager, Sea Hag, City, Royal Seal, Treasury, Merchant Ship, Hoard.
Tom got a 5/2 split, taking treasury/native village. Rick and J both took Monument/Smuggler, while I took Monument/Silver. The smugglers made out well for a while. My gambit involved royal seal (which got depleted quite fast) and city, buying up the better treasures too. I was going to expand my action cards, but that never seemed to happen, I bought gold, hoard, platinum, then started on provinces and colonies. The last royal seal sat there for a long time. The cities ran out before them though, so as I had more cities, I bought out that stack too. Oddly no one bought a Sea Hag (especially odd for Tom, a big fan of Witch). So the game was quickly awash with treasure and eventually ended with Rick buying the last colony. I had thought I had done well, but it was much closer than I expected.
J: 53 Tom: 43 Rick: 57 Me: 66
Despite Tom and Rick being somewhat unfamiliar with many of the cards, the game still flew by, the powerful effects of cards like Royal Seal speed the game up, even with the extra enticements of Colonies to build up for. Dominion has its drawbacks, including endless shuffling and the set-up and take down being quite a pain, plus turns that either play themselves or actually fail to do anything due to a clump of victory cards. But for all that, it is almost the quintessential lunch time game, with quick game play, but occasional longer turns so everyone does get a chance to eat their lunch too, as well as enough decisions to make it interesting. Oh and of course the variety.
