Buying and selling paintings is a very lucrative business, at least that's what Hollywood's led us to believe, and that's the premise of this game. Five different artists have produced a bunch of paintings, and it's the player's task to be both the buyer and the seller, hopefully making a profit in both roles. He does this by putting a painting from his hand up for auction each turn. He gets the money if some other player buys it, but must pay the bank if he buys it for himself. After each round, paintings are valued by the number of paintings of that type that were sold. The broker with the most cash after four rounds is the winner.
The published rules include a variant that allows Modern Art to be played with only three players, involving a dummy fourth hand. This variant is almost universally reviled by fans of the game. However, the game can be played with 3-players using normal rules and works perfectly fine.

I’ve made a few corrections because of typos, changed the pictures reflecting the Pegasus edition, rewritten the settling up example that reflects the new artists (changed names), and made some formatting changes.
But the main change is that I’ve corrected the rule regarding who turns the top card of the virtual player in a three-player game.

Tuck boxes are a nice solution to badly behaved cards and can hold other components too. Unfortunately, the ?tuck? bit of a tuck box can cause damage to unsleeved cards. Enter the new Cliptop? ?Tuckbox? which avoids this problem - a design idea liberally stolen from my current washing powder and a box of AA batteries I bought recently. It?s neat, it?s fun and it?s reasonably easy to do - I hope you like it. Give me a thumb if you do!

Ever had your sleeves caught in the flap of the tuckbox when you were closing it? So here's a new design with an horizontal layout that will keep your sleeved cards well protected.
This is a tuckbox for sleeved Modern Art cards, Mayfair edition. You will have to remove the insert in order to use it.

I bought the wonderful Pegasus edition of the game (fantastic artwork and superb production values, heads and tails above any other Modern Art editions I've seen so far) but unfortunately it came with only German rules. I decided to adapt and correct the existing original English rules for the Pegasus edition and here they are for others to use as well.
