I have a feeling people are confusing The Great Plague of 1665, which mostly affected London, with the Black Death, which actually occurred around 1350.

So very true, which is why I went if The Great Pandemic of 1918, far more individuals were killed by that then by that Plague that hit London.

I guess you could say it killed their hopes, dreams and aspirations, if not their spirits. A certain number died of starvation and exposure. The bank robbers and gangsters didn't quite rack up a million or more, but it wasn't from lack of trying. The argument could be made that The Great Depression lead to WWII.

This one's tough. Gretz still holds something like 50 NHL records, doesn't he? I think he's the most dominant athlete within a sport in the history of sport. But Ali is probably the defining athlete of the late 20C, and a great patriot too boot.

I went for Ali. Three minute rounds vs. thirty-second shifts. Getting hit in the head without a helmet vs. getting hit in the head with a helmet.

Tough choice. Both sports take a high level of stamina and grit.
