Just downloaded The Colonists, and it's great! Once v. 1.04 is released, fixing trading with computer players and allowing computer opponents in C&K and Seafarers, it'll be amazing.

Golddigger, freeware, on Palm sites, not to be confused with OotB's Knizia game, Gold digger. http://www.palmdownload.de/software/Detailed/6766.php
The problem appears to be that the software shares the title with the OotB remake of Gold Rausch, not that it is a remake with modifications of Lost Cities

Ok, I'm going to answer my own question...

I just recently downloaded the new version 1.5 and played a few quick 2 & 3 player games against the AI, then immediately registered the game. This PC edition is a blast and well worth the $19.95! The graphics and overall appearance are wonderful with customized gameplay options. I highly recommended it.

Just to note, there are both Mac and Windows versions available. I've been playing the Mac Version, and it is very nice. However, as of Jan. 1st, 2006, this game is no longer commercially available. That is, you can't purchase it anymore. You can still download the unregistered version.

Yes but it's PBEM and not very "pretty". Java ports are so much more aesthetically pleasing. (and as bad as I am, it's much less humiliating to be crushed by the AI).

This program is really messed up. I donwloaded and played it about 8 times and there were so many bugs that kept coming up, it is not worth the time. Don't even try more than the two-player version, and even then the leaders get locked into weird postions and make stupid, stupid moves over and over and over again. I played one game where the AI started an internal conflict and lost with the same leader for the first 20 moves. I just quit at that point. I played another that seemed to be going mostly OK, but I won 61 to 11. Ridiculous. Don't bother.

Agree with previous comment about the broken-ness of the game. However, I found it very useful in learning the mechanics: I have had only a couple opportunities to play E&T, and there's enough going on that my first couple of games were mostly hopeless floundering. After a few "games" using this program, I did at least understand what I was supposed to be trying to do!

Umm, don't you think $45 is a bit excessive? That's almost as much as the board game (more if you buy it with a discount), and at least with the board game you get a ton of bits with it. I don't know, maybe the AI and gameplay are real great, but interface-wise I've seen better efforts come out of shareware companies.

Speaking of shareware, Freeverse has done some (not exact) clones of games that might be of interest here. Most notably is their Axis & Allies clone Solace.

The PC game is great fun, and there's an expansion CD recently released. German and English language. Download or order on CD. Unfortunately the game isn't free.

It may not be free but at the advertised price (10.99EU or 13.68US) it might as well be! http://www.softunity.com///ECD000784L/Qwe8QBrX5T8hXIxnDo8r1i...

I'm not 100% sure this is a computerized version of the Sid Sackson classic. I couldn't figure out how to play this. This leads to this: could someone e-mail me or post the rules to Executive Decision?

Ah this brings back memories. I programmed this game in BASIC for a high school programming class back in 1979. No AI opponent though. I was not that good then (or now).

Wow, thanks for the tip on BIG TWO. I've become a big two addict! Works great on the Palm. You should try to find the rules on the web to help figure out the palm app, as a recommendation.

There is also a PocketPC version at http://www.freewareppc.com/games/big2.shtml

The mechanics are similar to Tichu/Gang of Four, but the above comment is correct that this is not a partnership game.

Aaron Marriner has put together a neat little, no frills website where he runs a lot of games PBeM or PbW style. One of them is the popular Ohne Furcht und Adel (aka Citadels here in the States). I've played it several times, and it's a blast. Uses German artwork and card text, but it's easy to figure out.

Hard to believe Sid Sackson's Bazaar and Can't Stop are not made into Palm games. I'm tempted to learn how to program, just to do it.

There is a game for the Pocket PC called Gold Fever that is listed on www.handango.com that is somewhat similar to Caeser & Cleopatra. I really enjoy it--good AI. There was also a game briefly on Handango called Pharoah's War that was identical to Balloon Cup (with a dumber theme, but good gameplay), but it was removed shortly after being released.
