My wife combined one of "her" hobbies and one of "mine", and bought me Mall World at 50% discount. (At the mall, even!) Also a box of Lindt chocolate. (MmmmmmMMMmmmmmmm... Lindt!)
(btw her hobby isn't shopping, it's finding discounts.)
(MmmmmmmmMMmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMmmmmm... Lindt!)
Then we discovered it's 3-5 players only. So it's champagne, and time for Kahuna.

I was working in London yesterday and exchanging emails with Spouse (who is 40 today- happy birthday to him!). Anyway he got his present at the weekend (a super posh buoyancy aid with pockets and hydration pack, which he duly christened by falling into the snowy Wye river and surviving) and we have family up for next weekend so nothing much was arranged for today.
He commented that he hadn't managed to sort out a Valentines present so did I want to drop into Playin' Games and get myself one. I pointed out that I hadn't got him one either so we now jointly own Leonardo, which we will open and play with Son tonight :-) It looks pretty, I like PoF and we need another 5 player game for our gaming evenings.
He did manage to buy me a small animal-monster sponge for my kayak, a very discounted copy of Elmo in Grouchland and a bright orange eraser. And a tub of rasperries :-) Supermarkets are wonderful places.

We bought a box of chocolates to share between the two of us. We had both spent way too much money on christmas so we wanted to do something cheap for valentines. My christmas haul included san juan, twilight struggle, fire in the sky, and several other games. She did equally well with kitchen appliances. Tonight I'm going to cook her dinner and we'll probably just have a normal evening.

My wife got me this and this:
I'll let her add what I got her.
For today, well, she has to work and then she has night class. So, most of the day is already taken up with normal stuff. She'll get home around 9 PM, so maybe we'll find something to do then...

I got a combo tax refund/Valentine's day care package:
Marvel Heroes Torres A Game of Thrones: Clash of Kings Card Football Under the Shadow of the Dragon
Woo-hoo!
For my wife, I got her a purse and wallet by some fancy-shmancy company (Vera Bradley, I think?) Sorry, she's not a gamer...
Guys with gamer wives can get away with the "double-dip"--hey, you bought me a new game! Well guess what--I got you one too!

She got me this, I got her a 2-year subscription to a scrapbooking magazine. Past Valentine's day gifts include a remote car starter (joint gift to each other) and a TV A/V switch box. We're into practical gifts.

We go out for dinner the night before V-Day because our favourite restaurant gives you a coupon for a free entree the next time you come in. Hey, it's win-win!
We played Runebound last night with the Doom Track. I won!

What I didn't buy her was flowers. I went to the flower shop to order a couple dozen roses. They wanted $96 a dozen. I called my wife and she was like "$96!!, hell no!". She told me to buy her a nice card and some chocolate.
I love her.

Since we're doing the long distance thing during grad/premed schooling, we're both going to go see the same movie tomarrow and then come home and curl up with the same DVD. Long distance is hard, but phone dates make it bearable....

I got nothing because I don't WANT anything on V-day.
I hate HATE HATE the push by big business to turn a simple day to express love into another major gift-giving holiday.
I like the sending of cards and simple chocolate arrangements. MAYBE some flowers (but not the horribly marked up roses). My wife and kids get small boxes of chocolate and a sincere "I love you."

Yes, Valentine's day is over-commercialized, but I'll take any excuse to acquire more board games! My bf got me Blue Moon and Tigris & Euphrates to add to our growing collection. I can't wait to try 'em! We're on a quest to discover favorite Knizia games, and what better place to start!
Had I known that V-day was a board-gaming event, I would have picked up Die Macher for my bf (he got that for himeself anyway), Antike, or San Marco.
I made my bf a roast beef dinner extravaganza and vanilla cuppie-cakes with chocolate icing. After the wine we drank, we weren't in the mood to decipher games rules, so we succombed to our other addiction, World of Warcraft online. A perfect day!

Well, we don't celebrate things around here unless it's something for the kids. So, I made waffles with strawberries on top (and I whipped up some cream) for breakfast. The kids didn't go for it so much, but my wife liked it.
I was running behind, so she made a bagged breakfast for me to eat on the way to work. And she snuck in a bar of dark chocolate with mint, so she sort of broke the "we don't do gifts for special occasions" rule. Not that I'm complaining.

That's a good point. I can see it now when I see her later...
"Hi Jay, here's a little gift for Valentines day"
"But babe, we decided that it was just a coprporate who.... oooh Full Metal Planete... you know I can't accept this today."
"Sorry, I just saw it and thought of you"
"It's OK, give it to me tomorrow instead"

The wife is working today until 10pm (the perils of being a youth worker) and so I'm making sure the house is tidy and making sure dinner is on the table.
I stumbled across the presents for me by mistake and they appear to be a DVD-case and by the looks of it a pack of haribo. I've got her some kind of uber-trendy scarf. We're not very romantic with gifts.
It's also that time of the month so dinner, cup of tea and early to bed...TO SLEEP
We're doing Valentines properly on Friday though when she's not working late. Off to the cinema to watch Hot Fuzz and then to our favourite Chinese cafe for dinner.

Personally I was not offended in any way.
For the record I got "The Machinist" which is a great movie and it will be good to see it again.
