He steals silently away from his fellow Montagues, a couple of strange, dark packages under his arm, while she sneaks away from the Capulets with her own boxes of treasures. They meet, away from prying eyes, for their late-night tryst, and exchange furtive rolls of the dice across the table. But what's that sound? Oh no, it's the Gaming Police! Run for it! Moments later, they fall breathlessly into each other's arms, exhilarated by another narrow escape. Ah, forbidden love! Next time they will be sure to roll those dice a little more quietly.

On this Valentine's Day, I would like to celebrate my partner in games and in life by playfully exploring her 5 favourite board games in contrast to my own. Of course, it wouldn't be a truly epic work of romantic literature if it wasn't written in verse.

This list goes out to all of my fellow Geeks, men and women, young and old, married, dating, and single, as we celebrate the love that is in our lives.

And most of all this goes out to my companion, my fellow adventurer, my best friend, my gaming partner. I love you! kiss

(Boy, geekiest Valentine's card EVER!)

SHE: Alan R. Moon's Ticket to Ride
Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside
Because it is my fifth favourite game.

HE: I mean no offence, but I think it's lame.

HE: I like my games a little more bloody,
Even more so if I can drink it from my buddy!
I really don't mind if the theme's a bit darker.

SHE: Too bad you keep getting killed my Ms. Harker.

SHE: Why look, it's a game that we can agree on,
Even though you haven't won in an eon!
You run but can't hide - I'm gonna get ya!

HE: In the midnight hour, I just might let ya.

And I know that it's one that you like to win too.
Boy do I love those over-produced bits!

Is that venerable classic, the Settlers of Catan.
With all those expansions, I'll never get bored!
