Recently I have discovered that youtube is a great source for discovering new music groups but, having a huge database as it has, it makes the findings a bit difficult. For that reason, I have created this list.
The aim? Think of a song you like, search for it in youtube and post a vid with it so that the rest of us can hear and enjoy it.
The rules? Post the youtube vid, the name of the band/solist/whatever, the name of the song and it's style.
P.S.: Make Fifi happy by contributing to this geeklist!
Holy Crap! This is NOT what I expected to see, and I am very happy to see Devin make a list.
His album Ocean Machine: Biomech is one of my favorite albums.
I first heard Devin Townsend on Steve Vai's band and album title, Vai. His vocal range was so incredible I had to find more. He is a brilliant song writer and the DTB albums are freakin awesome. Oddly, I don't like his Strapping Young Lad stuff.
Good song. I have listened to all of their albums...and I only like October Rust. Great album that captured the "wicken" (sp) feel perfectly. I wish they did another like it. Green Man is one of my top 10 songs.
I believe Dead Again, their new album, was just released.
Plus their site is a fun read. Their Vinland propaganda is interesting too.
You can hear clips of all the songs on iTunes. Unfortunately they are all from the beginning of the songs, so you don't get to hear any of the singing.
The White Stripes make GREAT videoclips, being this one the best of all (also my favourite song from them). I really love this band, especially their White Blood Cells album.
The fact is, YouTube made this band big. The originality and execution of the video helped it get major airplay on VH1, as well as radio airplay.
When they get a follow-up hit, I'll be more inclined not to think of them as 'one-hit wonder' material.
That said, the video is incredible. Even Weird Al (during a brief spot on the VH1 Top 20) loved it, wishing that he had come up with something like that.
Fun Fact: the guy lip-synching the song in the video is not the guy who actually sung it.
Come on the mighty Seagulls! Puching for the play-offs ... but not sure we want to win them!
That's weird. This bit used to mention Shire Games, and tell you all how wonderful we are. But it seems to have got deleted. Let's see what happens this time ....

I have a feeling this one was the first one to get them noticed:
The Mars Volta and the band Sparta (which you should check out if you like TMV) were started by the members of the band At The Drive In. Which, in my opinion was their best work. I HIGHLY recommend their album Relationship of Command. Unbelievable craftsmanship.
one of the reasons this album caught my eye. Catching the ear on the other hand is not something this album does right away. It takes a certain dedication and attention span that pays off.
Normally i'm more on Hard Rock things (like Deep Purple, Led Zep, but also Mars Volta and Devin Townsend or Tool). So when i designed Ys there was probably a lot of guitars in my head, but this list is fun anyway !
Cool song....can't stand death metal vocals though.
Like coffee, beer, olives, and a few other things in life they indeed are an acquired taste . I jumped right in with Nile and my head hurt after 2 songs - but I had a strange urge to come back and soon I didn't mind them at all.
This was a tough call. At first I couldn't decide because Spiff makes the best videos, but Mandelbrot Set is my favorite of his songs. But then I realized I could have them both!
Band: Uncle Tupelo Song: Chickamauga Genre: They started their own, known as Alt. Country
This was the first song that got me hooked onto this band. Funny thing is that I can't stand Tweedy and Farrar in their separate bands, but when they worked together it was magical. Like Unicorns.
Fun facts about the new geeklist system: you can accidentally close the broser when creating a new geeklist but, if you have a little patience revising the newest geeklists' urls you can recover your work. Wohooo!
@Jeremy: Glad you liked it! Seems we have a similar taste for music
And thanks for the contributions! I haven't watched them, but it's because I'm going to sleep now, as I have been from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the university and I really need to have a rest But tomorrow I'll hear them!
