I love all games and many an hour in my youth was taken up with a commodre amiga, rpgs and board games. So having got into board games again recently I thought it would be fun to list computer games that lead you to buy board games and board games that lead you to pick up computer games.
Found some other dudes who think along my lines http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/13411/item/232119#item... Link for free versions of board games

Wibble....I just bought intro box set as I loved playing this with my cousin back in the day.

Great as a boardgame, as a computer game, and head-to-head 24x7 on line. I started with the boardgame and of course still prefer it, but for solo nights, the pc and internet versions are great.

We fumbled through our first boardgame of Puerto Rico somewhat confused, but then we played a couple games on pc, everything clicked very quickly, and we learned the rules and game mechanics faster than you can put colonists to work in the sugar fields. Made it easy going back to the boardgame.

There's no pc version of T&E that I'm aware of, but the pc download version can really help with learning the rules. I'd plodded several times thru the boardgame rules trying to get the hang of it, but playing a couple times with the pc download version made things much clearer. I definitely prefer boardgame versions, but for learning, the pc/on-line versions can be very useful.

Both my husband and son love this computer game, so I went out and bought them the board game. Now the 3 of us can play it together.
(Still haven't opened the board game yet, but I will. Just have to pry them off the computer first.)

Picked this up recently along with a huge amount of HAT 20mm plastis ancients. Hmmm painting figures.
Took ages to stick on labels so I just listened to podcast whilst doing it and time flew by.
Expansions available soon...maybe

The board game version of Strat-O-Matic's baseball game (they also do football, basketball, and hockey--you know, all the food groups) dates back to the early 1960's and has outlived every competitor it's ever had. It's still a great game, but its computer version is even better.
The computer version's biggest advantage is that it does all your statistics for you, and any baseball fan knows that the game is all about the stats. The computer game's versatility is incredible. You can set it up so that you're playing the same game as you would be with the board game, or you can add all sorts of little tweaks and twists, tailoring the game into whatever way you like best. It's all these little add-ons that really make the computer version of the game shine over its daddy.
One reason SOM is so great is that it doesn't try to be what it isn't--it is NOT a typical video game pitch-by-pitch simulation where you can tell Barry Bonds when to swing the bat or tell Nolan Ryan what pitch to throw. It's an at-bat by at-bat game where you get to be your team's field manager, general manager, owner, or any combination of the three that you like. In the end, however, your players still have to do their jobs!
The last remaining advantages the board game version still has over its offspring are two: the feel of rolling the bones (the computer game will let you roll your own dice if you like, but the system for doing so is more hassle than it's worth), and its ability to accommodate house rules (your home-made rare play charts, etc) of which your computer never dreamed...
