A Message for Aldie...

Aldie, you probably already know this, but boardgamegeek.com rocks.
You have managed to pull this community together in a way that is revolutionizing both Boardgaming as a hobby and how gamers connect with one another. Not only has this site galvanized gaming as a legitimate passion (with that indescribable "oh cool, I'm not the only one" feeling first-timers experience), but you have also brought together a wide and diverse range of people who are actually INTERESTING in their own right. So here's my suggestion for you. Take it or leave it as you please, but understand that at the core of this suggestion is a huge compliment. Boardgamegeek's structure and ranking system is unlike anything I've seen on the internet. It's democratic, it's capitalistic, it's fair and it lends itself to intelligent debate, whether the subject is esoteric gaming mechanics or the stupidest videos on YouTube. Have you thought about using this site's core elements in other areas of interest? Now that you have reached the million-man mark, I know you would have an army of loyal followers who would follow you to any related sites with tremendous energy. Here's hoping I see "Scott Alden" on a Forbe's list some day,
Grant
P.S. Geeks, please feel free to add to this list as you wish.

Imagine BGG themed around movies. Microbadges galore. A national ranking system based on YOUR votes. MovieLists. Categories. Awards. The possibilities here are limitless, as would be the advertising (imho).

I personally have a difficult time choosing new music. I typically hate all radio stations outside of NPR, and have only discovered recent faves like Sigur Ros and VNV Nation through pure happenstance. How awesome would this site be if it included a subdivision which allowed geeks to vote on their favorite artists/albums/songs/composers/singers/musicians in genres ranging from Classical to Industrial?

Wondering where to plan your next vacation? This site would allow members to debate the world's best beaches. The worst museums. The most expensive destinations. The toughest hikes. Imagine session reports on rail-trips through eastern Europe, GeekLists on Colorado's best skiing...

Regional Lists. Ethnic Lists. The Best Steaks in the World. The Finest Whisky Bars. The Worst Franchises. McDonalds would be the new Monopoly and foodies the world over could come here to discover the new Agricola.

Finally, all you geeks with Kafka badges would have some place to congregate and debate the best horror, the best fantasy, the best of the classics, the worst of modern fiction, the best of modern science writing, the best editorialists, the worst journalists, the greatest authors of all time. Reviews, reading reports, BookLists, it's just too much for me to think about for long without feeling like I'm going to pass out from the weight of sheer possibility.

VGG - Videogamegeek A place to talk geek about all your video game needs... a forum open to gamers from all consoles.
As a Moderator on Sony's Gamer Advisory Panel, I've been promoting BGG's ease of use and open design. Our community used to have something much more like BGG in terms of design and community pride... a redesign a few years back took alot of the feeling away... I'd love to see Aldie's take on a fan-community videogame site.

For all those solitare gamers out there. This would be a big hit with the current users just as RPGGeek will be.

HotChicksWithGeeks.com (for the guys)
HotDudesWithGeeks.com (for the ladies)
Of course these would be celebratory websites ("Way to go, man! Nice picture! Who's the hottie?"), unlike their inspiration, which exists solely to make fun of DBs:

CoasterGeek.com
Unfortunately, the name is already taken by some hack that has his personal picture collection on the net.
There is a huge group of people on the net that go to get info on amusement parks and roller coasters. I've often been tempted to ask Aldie for permission to use his format for a coaster site like this site.

BeerGeek.com
Site is taken but currently inactive (no posts since Aug 2007).
ratebeer.com and beeradvocate.com are both okay, but they lack the BGG charm, openness, and accessibility.
Besides, I can't wait to start a split in the community over Euro vs. Ameribeer.

There has to be HistoryGeek.com. A monstrous events and persons database you can add to for GeekFame. GeekNarratives to list events according to your favorite historical model.

How about InventionGeek.com? You would only need a few million IDs to track all known inventions. Users could submit their own invention ideas for community review. Patent rights would be guaranteed by the site Terms of Use. And you could have GeekConnections!

AutoGeek or CarGeek
Cars are a complex hobby. With all the stuff you can do to a car, all the different models of car, with variations in engine, transmission, etc, a user generated DB of automotive knowledge would be ideal.
EDIT: Apparently Autogeek.com exists, but I'm not sure how analagous it is.
