"Innovative Games" - Games That Have Been Patented
United States Lexington Kentucky
-
On the Geek, members often discuss the latest \"innovative\" game or mechanism. I've often seen gaming connoisseurs pontificate about the relative merits of a simultaneous action selection mechanism or some other equally banal gaming advancement. With my tongue planted firmly in my cheek, I say that popular Geek opinion is total rubbish!
The perception of what constitutes gaming excellence in BGG culture is all wrong! Rather than subjectively label a game \"innovative\" based upon popular Geek opinion, I decided to research truly innovative games using an objective, fact-based criterion: whether or not they have been patented.
The following geeklist features games that have US patents. Each entry will contain an image of the first page of the patent, the patent title, inventor, assignee, and link to a file containing the full patent (pending approval). My hope is to add to this list over time. If you find a game patent that isn't referenced here, please let me know.
During my search, I\'ve found numerous games that are not in the database! I\'ve saved some of the more interesting patents. Perhaps one day I\'ll clear out the backlog and enter them into the database.
Cheers,
Lanky

WOTC never marketed the game that led to their patent application, as I recall. Pending litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
Edit: You need the two underscores in the URL, but can't get BGG to keep them as part of the URL....
Try http://www.delphion.com/details?&pn=US07201374%5f%5f
Proof that I'm more of a geek than you.

As I've lost the motivation to continue the arduous process of uploading images to my user gallery, I've put this list on hold. Perhaps one day I'll continue.
In the meantime, please feel free to make additions as you see fit.
