I spent a couple of days at the UK Games Expo at the weekend. I went with friends on Saturday and then took my two boys on Sunday.

Naturally, there was plenty of stuff to choose from and although I took a copy of my wants list to keep me on the straight and narrow, I ended up buying something completely unrelated!blush I didn't spend a lot but picked up one of two bargains over the weekend.

Anyway, here's what I got and why.

Having found my old copy of space Hulk in the loft recently, the boys were keen to unleash their painting talents on the minatures. I wanted them to get some practice in, so I picked up some Space Rangers from the bring & buy for them to practice on.

The casting's reasonably good and at £3 for 50 figures, you can't really complain (thanks to Pete for spotting them on the stall).

I'm a fan of Zoch Verlag games and a copy of Dawn Under caught my eye on one of the stalls. As I picked it up and marvelled at the £35 price tag, my friend Rog said he'd seen one at the bring & buy.

It turned out to be the German version but the rules were included in English so I picked it up for £10.

Under some rather persistent pressure from my youngest to spend more money, I bought him a Horror Clix graveyard set. good value for £3 on one of the stalls.

My last purchase of the games. My eldest lad went with this in mind and despite trying out a couple of the other card games (Solairis & Dinosaur King) he could be budged from this. A tenner from one of the stalls.

The one that got away!

This was on the bring & buy stall for £17, but I thought we wouldn't play it so I put it back... I had second thoughts later and went back but it was gone by then - hope it went to a good home!

I got two games this year; Dominion and Cutthroat Caverns. Dom was £30 and Cutthroat was £20.

I found the prices to vary wildly across all the stalls which begs the question How Much Does Anything Cost???

I was expecting a few new titles to be there but they wern't released in time. Shame.

I was hoping to see more new releases, but this was what I was really hoping for, and got. Also picked up Through The Desert, Notre Dame and Tinner's Trail from the bring and buy, and Snow Tails (with expansion track piece thrown in) after having a demo run. Martin Wallace kindly signed the back of my TT.
I would possibly have picked up Automobile if I'd been able to get a demo in, but these seemed to be the busy tables of the show. It must have made an impact though, because in the hotel in the evening it seemed to be in action on a few tables.

New games seemed pretty pricey this year, presumably to do with sterling's weakness against every other currency on earth. I fancied a copy of Pack and Stack but not for the £35 I saw it available for.

We had a chat at the Heron Games stall about the current prices on the market, and were told that the issue still remained that many of the games for sale had been purchased with a punishing exchange rate, and that this stock would have to be sold with the cost being passed on to the customer.
Some of the prices were quite shocking - I still can't justify the price requested for Galaxy Trucker which is a real shame.

It's a shame because the vendors help to make the Expo what it is. I wonder if they sold as many games as they'd hoped?

Here's what I got at the Expo - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/44169. I didn't think anything was particularly pricey - I think the most expensive thing I bought was Small World at £25, which seemed ok to me.
