Games That Have Hit the Table at my Gaming Group

You can't imagine HOW happy I am to have a steady gaming group, something I've never really had until recently. We often play the same games, but from time to time a new one hits the table. So I'm going to keep track of what games we're playing, how I enjoyed it and how they went that week!
My Gaming Group (*** consistently there, ** sometimes there, * often MIA and/or single time player, ! wife, when I can convince her to play a game lol):
Hovhannes (me) *** Kevin *** Jonathan *** Shane *** Mark *** Adam ** Kristina * Dustin * Forrest * Shawn * Gohar !
So without further adieu, my Geeklist!

This game is what actually brought our gaming group together - we decided to play through an entire campaign of Descent... and it went so well that the Hero's were laying waste to the Beastman Overlord before Bronze was even over. We stopped as Silver was beginning because it was apparent that our party was completely overpowering anything the Overlord threw our way.
I'm not disappointed though - I loved Descent but the most important thing it did was bring our group together, and now every week I get to play fun boardgames and card games!

The mother of all boardgames (at least to us). This has hit the table more times then any other game so far and will continue to do so. What makes it so popular is that the majority of our gaming group loves the game and we're always excited to get a crack at taking down a Great Old One!
This is (bar none) my favorite board game, period.

Okay, I'll admit we enjoy a little interstellar conquest now and again - so sue us!
This game has hit the table twice so far, and I'm sure it will find itself in front of us again. Unfortunately for me, while I'm damn good at destroying my enemies fleets... I'm not as good as completing Objectives, which, incidentally, is how you win the game lol
This game will suck away hours (even more then Arkham Horror!), but it is just so amazingly cool to command an entire starfleet for a while

Another hit at our group, but one that hasn't managed to hit the table more then twice. I am sure it will though, because the reactions to Runebound was very favorable, and everyone loved the setting! The system was also very unique, mixing a board game with a card game. It doesn't hurt that I have all the expansions (trust me, that's a lot of cards...) mixed in *grin*

A surprise hit with the group, Last Night on Earth turned into a board game that hit the table two weeks in a row and got in several plays. I quickly purchased the expansion and we played that as well. I've been told this is a definite "must play again" horror game!

I think this game is brilliant. It's only hit the table one time, but that night we played 2 really awesome games and got to experience all the wonder and amazement that comes with Cosmic Encounter. The game comes with 50 Alien Races, each with their own special abilities! One even lets you conquer planets by crash landing your spaceships into enemy planets. Some of the scenarios we saw were downright hilarious.
I'm hoping to see Cosmic Encounter hit the table again, though I'm not sure when. I think I was the most enamored with the game, but I think its mostly a matter of timing - we have other games that we are playing at present.

This was a big hit at our gaming group, and we've played it four times. Those in the group who had played Shadows Over Camelot (which also features a Traitor mechanic) said that they thought Battlestar Galactica did it better, and liked the game more then Camelot!
The game is just plain fun, and having someone look at someone else during each skill check and calling them "Cylon!" makes everyone laugh - even the Cylon
... which happened to be me twice out of the four lol

Bang! is an entertaining card game - each player takes on a role in the Wild West, from Sheriff to Deputy to Outlaw to Renegade. The thing is, everyone keeps their role secret... except for the Sheriff! The Deputies are supposed to protect the Sheriff, the Outlaws are supposed to kill the Sheriff, and the Renegade? Kill everyone and be the last man (or woman!) standing! Another neat feature is the range of weapons - if someone is sitting two or three chairs away from you, you can't hit them unless you upgrade your weapon or kill the person to the right or left of you!
Fun card game, very easy to learn and play.

Tick-tock, time is running out and your timestream is completely f'd up! Of course, the other players are in the same boat. It is a lot of fun completely screwing up history in order to transform it into "your" version and return home.
Chrononauts is an awesome card game that we played several times one day. While it hasn't hit the table again, I'm sure it will in the future.

Our new favorite, this has hit the table several times already, and in multiple venues! I already ordered the two expansions, and the gaming group is excited to see what new cards can be added to an already awesome game. I can't recommend this game enough! While it is a complicated game to explain, once you have the rules down it becomes amazingly simple yet complex at the same time. The most fascinating thing about Race for the Galaxy is that the cards feature little to almost no text - the whole game is played with symbols that do anything from giving you draws during certain phases to giving you victory points, to letting you settle worlds or develop technology.
This is like a card game version of Twilight Imperium, minus the 8+ hour game time! Highly recommended.

Played this today, for the first time and the reaction was slightly mixed. From what I could tell, it was a board game dressed up as a card game trying to be a board game. I thought it was an ok game but not a fantastic game, and I think that was the general consensus. It shared the "stab each other in the back" nature of Munchkin, but the ability to "shift" your organization around to form different power structures reminded both me and one of my friends of Vegas Showdown (which I'm going to be bringing to the table sometime soon - that's a tight game).

A brilliant game I haven't played since my early 20's, HeroQuest is (for me at least) the "granddaddy" of dungeon crawlers - it preceeded Descent as a boardgame version of D&D and is easier to play the Fantasy Flight's juggernaught, and the dice rolling system it uses continues in the massive tabletop game HeroScape!
... plus why wouldn't you want to play a badguy called Zargon? Right?

Awesome WWII boardgame. Like most of these recent wargames from the "bigger" companies (Fantasy Flight, Days of Wonder) these games come under speculation because they are expensive, have lots of plastic bits, but aren't as "complex" as other wargames. Regardless of what you've heard, Tide of Iron rocks! It's a great World War II boardgame filled with tactics and cool looking figures. The theme is well represented, and nothing gets you more excited then your machine gun nests pinning down approaching troops!

This has surprisingly turned into one of my favorite games! The only negative is the limited scope - with a small adventure book, after a few plays you'll have visited all the planets and seen the same story lines. But if you can put this negative aside (since each planetary encounter is different depending on the consistency of your landing party) you will have a blast, especially with 2 players. One side plays the Federation, while the other plays the Klingons. Both sides are a lot of fun to play, with the Fedaration playing the roll of the good guy who explores and sends out Ambassadors to sway planets to join them, or the Klingons who are a violent Empire-building race who sends out Agents to stab people to have them join the Empire or secretly move Agents to Federation bases and ships to blow them up from the inside.
AWESOME game. This needs to be re-issued with more story lines, a bigger board and plastic minis

Fun little spelling game. You basically get a hand of cards and have to spell a word/words with it. Each round you receive more cards to spell bigger words or more words. Each letter is worth points, and you try to use up all your letters or you might end up with 0 points for the round!

Having been sucked back into the World War 2 frame set with Tide of Iron, I decided to buy a different WWII game that I've had my eye on for a year or two, Memoir '44. I bought BattleLore the moment it had been released and even though it's a fun game, I just couldn't get into it - but I wanted to give a similar system another chance, especially since I enjoy the WWII setting.
I love it! Memoir '44 is a great WWII game, and I definitively recommend it! The only thing that some might not like are the shorter game times when comparing it to other war games - you win battles by collecting Trophies, and you collect 1 Trophy with each Unit you destroy. Some battles require 4 Trophies to win, others 5, others 6. But I love this game and will be playing it a lot!

Fantastic game. I was worried when the Android forums were filled with debate at whether this was a good game or a bad game, but apparently that merely means that what we have on our hands is a *brilliant* game that will spark lots and lots of debate. Android, just like Arkham Horror (and designed by the same man!) is an experience - you enter a living, breathing world and live the life of a character. Android's story is told over the course of two weeks, as the investigators are trying to solve a murder. What really makes the game special is that it is set in a dystopian future - one that is VERY similar to what we know in movies like Blade Runner. Yes, we're talking about living robots and flying cars!
I love this game.
