Whole lotta apps out there on the AppStore. It's not surprising to see Reiner Knizia sell some of his games there to get a piece of that big pie. The world would be a better place if it had more exposure to his games, if only in the more minor ways.

UPDATE:
*If it says "UNIVERSAL APP", then it works for both Ipod Touch, Iphone, and is optimized for Ipad.
*Am aware of itunes links for all of these entries. Will try to get them in sometime.... just sometime. For those geeklist entries posted by others, they'll have to take charge of those when those apps come out.

With the whole situtaion.....

Pros:
--A nice trend on games from the AppStore is many sell for mere dollars, which are also the going rates for his set of games to date.
--some have multiplayer options and hotseat modes.
--AI opponents available. There are many geeklists here about iPhone/IpT apps and sites pertaining to gaming, some even offering free solutions, but this doesn't mean anything to those with less than reliable coverages, and to those with iPod Touches who can't get wifi everywhere they go.
--they look nice enough, but still have small footprints (all of them are less than 10MB, assuming the figures given to me were accurate)

Cons:
--none of his higher acclaimed games are available, such as Ra, Tigris & Euphrates, and Samurai (although these undoubtedly would be priced more accordingly, and thus more expensive)
--The prices are low, but there are those who would always appreciate a free demo, just to sample the waters to truly see if they'll like the way the game is implemented, as well as the game mechanisms itself. Even low prices can add up, as these do encourage people to buy more of them.
--It's been reported that the AI is weak for some games, Charlemagne in particular.

All prices are US and current as of their respective timestamps.

PRICE DROP!
As of Feb. 3rd, 2011 Thurs., Keltis Oracle is at a reduced price at $2.99!

[size=18]PRICE DROP!
Tecocalli on sale for a limited time (since Feb. 8th 2011 Tues.)!!!
From $1.99 reduced to $0.99!

PLAY ONE OF THE WORLD's MOST SUCCESSFUL BOARD GAMES!
Millions of players worldwide have either played Reiner Knizia's award winning game in the original board game format, or have played on one of the online sites in the 5 years since launch of the board game. But the iPhone version could be the best yet .......by far! The high res screen of the iPhone perfectly suits the colours of the game, and the iPhone's super-intuitive controls make it so easy to place those tiles!

INGENIOUS is HOURS of SHEER FUN.
The already addictive nature of the Ingenious board game is greatly enhanced on the iPhone, giving the user a really exciting- and graphically stimulating-experience every time. Build lines of colour tiles, try and block your opponent, and remember that the winner isn't necessarily the player with the highest scores in only a few colours!
You must excel in all your colours.

EASY ACCESS:
The rules are really easy to learn and a comprehensive tutorial will introduce you to the game. Within minutes you'll be playing effortlessly, even as a first time player of the game.

MUSIC WHILE YOU PLAY.
Just choose your favourite artist or songs from the music iPod on your phone. And choose a different graphic background to suit your mood.

YOU'LL NEED STRATEGY to beat the AI opponents. But you have a choice of easy, medium or hard (as well as the option to play against the clock if you wish). You choose! And the app will record your best scores and best performances. There is room for up to 3 different player profiles.

PLAY TOURNAMENTS if you are feeling competitive. You can also choose to play against the clock in some of the rounds.

PLAY the SOLITAIRE game: This is a seriously satisfying feature of the iPhone version! Instead of playing against opponents you use all your skills to create a really high score.

Sadly, this one doesn't work for iPod Touch Gen 1. Wish I had seen that before I purchased it...

Oh well. I try to buy most of the board games available so hopefully more will be made .

Just bought it!

It's very intuitive, which is nice. I didn't have to read any instructions. I've only played one game, but I beat the AI on the hardest level. Hopefully the AI will get a little better, but it was still fun. Now I'll get to try out funky blocking strategies and see what happens...

This one had me intrigued but could never find a copy at the game shop when I went in. Downloaded it and fell in love. Bought it on my next trip to the game shop as it was in. In fact, there's a game of it being played in the next room as I write this.

Hope to try more of his games in the iPhone soon.

From the mind of award-winning game designer Reiner Knizia comes TOPAS for the iPhone and iPod Touch!

Topas is three games in one. Arcade mode mirrors the traditional Topas Card Game and with the addition of Weakest Link and Color Play you will have hours of entertainment.

In Arcade mode, you place gems-on-tiles to maximize your points while lining up seven gems in a row to clear space on the board to complete each level. But you cannot place more than 8 gems in a row! If you successfully place all 36 tiles on the board you progress to the next level where additional color gems challenge your skills!

Weakest Link mode challenges you to place 8 tiles on the board while maximizing your points. You play four rounds and your second lowest score is registered to Agon Online.

Color Play mode offers a different twist. You must place 36 tiles on the board. But each time you score 10 points per color the board is wiped clean offering you a clean slate to continue placing times.

The Top Scores for each game are recorded on Agon Online.

I'm probably in a small minority here but to me, this is a much better iteration of Ingenious. And it's been transformed quite nicely into a single player experience. Probably also the best looking Knizia app so far. Rotating the pieces does take some getting used to.

Quote:
Money is a fast-paced and addictive card game based on the original tabletop eurogame release by Reiner Knizia.

You start the game with six bills of random currency. Your goal is to concentrate your reserves into just two or three types of currency before the game ends. To do so, you must spend the money you already have. It takes money to make Money!

Though Money is one of Reiner Knizia's deepest (and richest) card games, it's all been carefully fit into this iPhone release. Recolored bills make it easy to read your currency. Simple gestures allow you to examine your own hand and the bids of your opponents. Everything is animated, for a colorful play experience.

Finally, six different AIs, each with their own personality, help make every game unique. You can slowly discover the AIs' strategies to improve your chances of winning.

Money is the first release in RPGnet's MobileEuroCard series, all of which share common gestures and animations, making it easy to dive into any game as soon as you've learned your first.

What's new
Incremental improvements for all six computer opponents. New "difficulty" setting in Game Options. Bug fix for incorrect darkening of cards that primarily appeared in "touch to continue" mode.

I have to say that while I really like the actual card game, I am having 'problems' with certain parts of he interface in the iPhone version:

The dealer is too slow - it takes longer to deal the cards than to play the hand. I find the wording on the 'home page' about "New Game" immediately starts a game to be rather offensive because of the amount of time it takes the dealer to actually deal the cards! It would seem to be a simple fix, an option to skip the 'real time' dealing.

The latency while sliding your bid has resulted in the wrong selection at least once a game. If the cards slid in real time, no problem at all.

Thus, it as a nice attempt at recreating the play of the actual game with real people, but it ultimately failed for me. Too bad, I really like the card game. It is pretty, although the colors on some of the cards are a tad dark.

I didn't notice any latency sliding the cards until this latest update. When I was trying to swap hands with another player, my cards accidentally went back to my own hand. I hope the developer fixes the latency with a future update. The colors don't bother me. It would be nice to have an option to speed up the deal, but that's not a huge issue for me.

Uhm, Crossbones is a very obvious case of plagiarism, pasting a pirate theme onto Set. Monumental is almost nothing like Set. The only similarity is that tiles have colours and up to 3 symbols. The matching rules aren't even the same and the surrounding gameplay is completely different.

Reiner Knizia's Roto

This one's an iPhone/Ipod Touch exclusive!

Quote:
Roto is a challenging and addictive game developed by international best seller Dr. Reiner Knizia.

Be quick for this week's sale.
AppSmile.com found that at $2.99 Roto was worth every penny; At $1.99 it's a bargain!

Dr Knizia is best known for his critically acclaimed and hugely popular board games, however Roto was designed from the ground up for the iPhone.

The rules are simple so anyone can play:
You rotate 6-colored wheels to match segments with the same color in adjacent wheels, without losing points on needless rotations.

Mastering all the challenges and planning ahead to use the best possible combinations is harder than it may seem.

A new game, a new challenge, it's never the same.

Roto can be used whenever you feel like playing or passing time. You can pause and resume whenever it suits you.

There are 3 different gameplay, all with different constraints:
- Puzzle
- Arcade
- Action

Disclaimer: once hooked, people have reported games lasting well over 40 minutes.

Watch Dr. Knizia on YouTube talking about this new game
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80J4VKUsEVY

What some of the early players have to say:

AppSmile.com: "Roto’s easy-to-learn, difficult-to-master gameplay has a tendency to turn five minutes into forty-five in the blink of an eye. [...] Reiner Knizia’s Roto Worth Every Penny."

Reiner K. "I have played the game for about 5 hours. I like all three play modes!"

"what a delicious time-waster you got there. And I thought I've seen all in the world of match-3"

"Good minimalist fun! I've really enjoyed Puzzle and Arcade so far (still afraid to try Action at this point)."

"Insta-buy. Love Knizia games. It's simple on the surface, but there is a lot more to it than it first appears. "

I think most of us prefer the "real thing" (assuming you mean playing with boards, bits, cards and human beings as opposed to an iPhone and AI). But remember: with real live human opponents, you can't play a quick game of Robot Master during commercial break, a quick game of Poison waiting for the car to warm up, Money lying in bed at night or Ingenious while sitting on the loo. surprise (I know, I know: TMI gulp )

Ditto here. I typically prefer IRL games, but being able to play a game in the fraction of the time of an IRL and playing anywhere are always welcome. Plus, some of these games just won't get played. Either b/c there's already so many other games out there, too few people own these games, or no one has 'em.

Robot Master is an easy to learn puzzle game from the mind of award-winning game designer, Dr. Reiner Knizia.

How does it play? Take turns placing numbered cards down on a 5 x 5 grid to score lines both vertically and horizontally. The scores for each line are determined by the sum of the cards. Here's an example:

(1 + 2 + 4 + 5 + 0) would score 12 points.

Sounds easy, right? Well, here's a couple of twists:

First, pairs of cards anywhere in the line count 10x their face value. Here's an example:

(1 + 2 + 4 + 2 + 0) would score 25 points.

Second, triple cards anywhere in the line count 100 points regardless of face value. Here's an example:

(0 + 1 + 2 + 0 + 0) would score 103 points.

That's all there is to it but remember that your final score is only your lowest scoring line, and you want the highest score possible!

So build evenly and don't neglect weak lines...

------------------------------------

FEATURES

* Solo play: compete against players from around the world as you strive to be the best on the online High Score table!

* Versus play: challenge a friend (Pass'n Play) or the AI to go head to head. This time, one player takes the columns, and the other takes the rows. The player with the lowest scoring line loses!

* Not feeling our music? Play your own and still enjoy the game's sound effects.

------------------------------------

Please be sure you're running firmware version 2.2 or higher on your iPhone or iPod Touch. For best results, please reboot your device before playing Robot Master.

For 1 to 2 players.

Simply but very fun game and quite a nice looking implementation. Frankly I'm surprised that this and Monumental are by the same developer as Knights of Charlemagne which looks far more amateurish.

This one seems to play fine, although I've not played it enough to comment on the AI strength. It's not the most visually appealing iPhone port though- I think that they could have done better there. Still, it's fair for the price, and the little tutor makes it easy to get playing without any prior knowledge of the game.

REINER KNIZIA’S POISON

"When I have fifteen minutes to kill, Poison is one of the better ways to go! (Forgive the unintentional pun.)"
- Tom Vasel, Boardgame Reviewer

From the mind of award-winning designer Dr. Reiner Knizia comes this simple and addictive card game!

It’s an exciting battle of skill, luck, and nerves in Reiner Knizia’s Poison. As potion-makers brewing magic elixirs, players play numbered Potion cards into one of three, colored cauldrons, being careful not to overfill them. The player who overfills the cauldron must take all of the cards that go with it, including any of the deadly Poison cards that were mixed in! Players with either the most or least of a Potion at the end of the game might just have a chance of surviving the potions lab and winning the game.

PEOPLE ARE SAYING

"All in all, I think that Reiner Knizia’s Poison is an excellent iPhone game. It is the right level of challenge that I want from my iPhone: something that is interesting, plays quickly, but can be put down easily if more pressing matters come up. The value you get for the low price of $2.99 makes this a worthwhile purchase. I highly recommend it for both German game fans and iPhone game enthusiasts."

This is the only app I own that regularly kills my iPad. If a game of Poison is in progress when I minimize the app or turn the iPad off, something doesn't release properly and the system slows down to a halt. Then an internal reset mechanism goes off and it returns to normal, except with Poison in 1X (non-zoomed) mode.

Fun game, though, and tough to win!

Once in a great while I get a different face on the title screen between games (or it's at least a different pose). I don't think it's Dr. Knizia's face, though. I'll post a screen shot if I notice it again.

It actually took until Q3 2010, but this Universal app is finally out...

PRICE DROP
$1.99 as of Aug. 20th, "FOR A FEW DAYS ONLY!"

http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=Smq3RC8yf5I&offe...

Quote:
High Society is a card-based auction game of great deals and careful brinkmanship based on the tabletop eurogame by Reiner Knizia.

Every player starts the game with the same amount of money to spend on luxuries and recognitions, but whoever spends the most money loses, no matter what they collected!

High Society is based on the same very successful MobileEuroCard gaming engine that was used in Reiner Knizia's Money, also produced by RPGnet. Simple gestures allow you to examine your own hand and the bids of your opponents. Everything is animated, for a colorful play experience.

Additionally, four different AIs, each with their own personality, help make every game unique. You can slowly discover the AIs' strategies to improve your chances of winning.

High Society is the second release in RPGnet's MobileEuroCard series. Once you know how to play one game, you'll understand the interface of all of them!

Update: We're aware of the 3.1.3 startup issues. We have submitted a revision, 1.01, which resolves them and will hopefully be available soon. If you are running iPhoneOS 3.1.3, you will want to wait until the next release before you purchase. If you are running iOS 4, it should work fine right now.

Someone mentioned that this release has something to do with why the game will get pulled from Mabiweb.

Anyone know if this is true? Either way, I hope it doesn't turn out like Puerto Rico. It got pulled from BSW way back, but still no release for Xbox Live Arcade.

I'm not terribly familiar with how this game plays. Would it be a good candidate for online asynchronous multiplayer? I do agree with that general principle. Asynchronous multiplayer is the main way I play games.

I think it's a fine implementation--besides the fact that it crashes constantly if you set AI speed on 'fastest possible'.

[this is NOT based on Temple, but is an original iOS game]

Reiner Knizia's Teocalli is a solo strategy game in which the player attempts to quickly and efficiently build temples utilizing dice rolls. The player will roll special dice depicting colored symbols that match those on the temple layouts. Matching rolled dice with those in the temple layouts will allow the player to build temples and earn rewards in points, wild card dice, and additional turns. Maximize your score while pushing your luck and mitigating bad rolls with clever play and strategic decision-making. And due to the shifting nature of die rolls, Teocalli is a different game every time! Compete with friends for the high score, or challenge yourself to establish a all time best!

If I didn't know any better, going strictly by the game's description, I'd say this looks like a cross between a Priests Of Ra clone and Ra: The Dice Game clone.

Only one issue - if you drop out of the game you lose your progress and have to start from scratch - on the long and medium games this can be quite frustrating.

That said gameplay is fun and for the price a nice add to the app collection

Agreed. I hope this can be remedied in an update.

But still fun!

Tecocalli on sale for a limited time (since Feb. 8th 2011 Tues.)!!!
From $1.99 reduced to $0.99!

This is actually a very fun game, especially given its price point. Knizia has games that are nicer than this, but those tend to be at "premium price points" ($5+). This is basically another "Knizia dice game". Similar to Farkle, or one of his other dice games... Pickomino, but with a building theme pasted on, and the usual "press your luck" element.

Pros:
+rules can be read and understood within 5 minutes
+easy to pickup and play
+meaningful decisions without it being overly analytical
+great casual gaming. I wouldn't want to play this all the time, but I can see myself coming back to it.
+low price
+high scores for those who want to go beyond "beating the game" (by completing all 12, 18, or 24 temples, depending on game length level)
+3 game length levels (worth noting, "short game" is still challenging, as all the larger temples come out earlier since there's less of them to build to win the game)

Cons:
-Once you start a game, it won't save your progress if you leave. So if you're on an Iphone and have to take a call while midgame, you're gonna have to start over. Long game can take at least 10 to 15 minutes, so it's quite a problem there (though don't quote me on that, as I didn't actually time it)
-can't open options menu midgame, so once you start a game and intend to finish it, you're stuck with those options until you do
-Can't access rules during the game. Because of the 1st bullet point, you can't even quit to the menu, check out rules, and then resume your game.

Yeah, I bought the wrong one thinking that HD would offer perks for a Retina display. At least HD is only 10 MB more or so, instead of it being x2 to x5 its non-HD version like with other apps.

I liked this one. Got it on my android phone and now my ipad as well. It's challenging just to get through, let alone maximize score. Each labyrinth type (i think it goes hedge maze, castle, dungeon) gets progressively harder with new obstacles (ghost, dragon, etc). graphics are pretty and the free version (at least on android version released a few months ago) included three types of labyrinth. That number may have been reduced on the ipad.

Dr. Reiner Knizia's FiTS is based on Ravensburger's board game of the same name. FiTs challenges your tactical skills, and your luck!

The aim of the game is to fill the game board with 16 different tiles. You can play alone or with a friend on the same iPad. Your challenge: find the courage to leave gaps!

The right squares should be left uncovered in order to score more points. You should nevertheless block as many free squares as possible. Flip your tiles, mirror them or discard them. With the right tactics, overcome many challenges and become a master of the game!

Price: $3.99
version 1.0
size: 14.2 MB
Developer: Ravensburger Digital GmbH
