Hey guys, for my first geeklist, I would like to gather all the "multiplayer wargames" available here in geekdo. I'm a big fan of these type of games altough I haven't tried a lot of them, I did not find a lot of choices in the top ranked games, so please list all the games you know that could be inserted in this list.

Important note: All of these games don't have to be 100% wargames, I'm looking for games that have a good wargaming feel\experience in them with some sort of combat\fighting mechanic, it doesn't need to be listed as a Wargame here on Geekdo.

Britannia-like game set in the ancient Middle East (1500-600 BC). Map and timeline apart, the biggest differences are greater differentiation in troop types and random nation turn order.

I like it a lot.

4 players (allegedly 3-4 but the 3 player variant is weird)

Combat: Dice Rolling

Playing Time: 5 Hours

Components: Dice, unit and a nation chits. Plenty of play aids. Artwork is not as good as FFG Britannia, but better than AH or Gibson Britannia.

Would make a quick comment on this game, have played it a few times, and I personally like it however there is some thinks that can turn some players off.

1) Battle cards not dice
2) The way orders are prepared, you do not have full influence over all aspects at any time
3) Quick ending while playing with influence

Nice stuff:

1) Recruitment
2) Politic (like in TI3)

I have the expansion also, since it adds some excellent elements such as research/scholar, King (with troops), Levies, minor leaders and such, in the size of a mini AH expansion.

One thing more, we always play world domination, since the influence bit is quite annoying, normally 3-4 turns untill the game is over.

My gaming Group loves A Game of Thrones, I've noticed there's some similar mechanics, and we love Battle Cards more than Dice, Would you recommend this game? how about languange independency? is it important?

There is language dependency in the game, all the politic cards and event cards and such are language dependent, especially the politic cards can be hard to go through if you can't read the language.

I would recommend the game, I really like it, however get the expansion with the basic game since it cleans up some of the lacks in the basic.

It can be played in less if the players dont overthink the orders they give. Or if there is one good player who can balance his politics and war exceptionally well, then the game can end in 3-4 turns if no one catches up to what he is doing.

Actually this is two games in one, A risk and a Struggle of Empires type of game.

I really dislike the Struggle of Empires style, since you have large armies warping around the board, however the alliance system is nice. People say that standard Struggle of Empires is better, but never tried it.

The other Risk version adds some fun elements, but I would consider drinking a few beers before hand.

Compared to TI3 there is action from the get go order system like in a game of thrones. Most disliked thing is that like in Warrior Knights, the game can end very fast, and the possibility to knock someone out of the game is very present.

Maybe somethings get altered in the expansion, but haven't tried that yet.

"Players expand from their home world to explore systems, starting at the edges of a board and working inward towards the center Throneworld. The systems get progressively tougher as players move inward which often involves battling units of greater size and/or technology level. The interesting mechanics allows players to choose 11 different unit types (6 space and 5 ground) to organize into fleets, explore and conquer worlds. In addition, there are four types of technology: Space Combat, Ground Combat, Jump (controls how far a fleet may move), and Communications (controls the distance you can control fleets)."

I personally prefer this over TI:3. While not blessed with a profusion of plastic pieces, it has more different unit types (including orbital jump troops), a more involved combat system, and autonomous systems that put up a real fight. (Sometimes it's easier to nab a system from a neighboring player, than from the game system. Either method gets you closer to victory.)

If you want more steak and less sizzle, try Throneworld.

"A strategic game of stellar exploration and conquest. You build ships and send them out to explore the Galaxy. After generating detailed worlds, you decide whether to colonize or not, and how to deal with the natives (if any). Wormholes may be discovered, which change the topology of the map. Invest in tech research. Yaquinto's almost trademark hidden movement (task force counters, including dummies, and actual task force set up sheets behind player screens) is in full use here."

Good luck finding it.

That's ... surprising. IME, the outcome is near invariably clear in 4h, often in 2h, and playing to a formal conclusion wouldn't add very much to those numbers.

Similar to air combat (usually with simultaneos plotted moves) but a different genre, Naval wargames can usually work very well with multiple players.

I have not tried this game, but Grand Fleets does work great. Alternatively, if you like the age of sea, the old Avalon Hill classic Wooden Ships & Iron Men is great with multiple players
