First i have to say sorry for my poor english soblue. I have the feeling you learn to understand english in germany, but not to write and speak...

I am addicted to boardgames. An addiction which nearly exploded since I am a BGG Member and member in a local gaming group. The Person which suffers most is my girlfriend *g*, which I love since nearly 7 years. Because there is no good day without gaming, she also has to play lots of games.

The "new boardgame detector"- comic stripe nearly make her cry of laughing. Could be taken direct out of our daily life...

In this list i like to collect the games she likes and I am trying to find the reason why she exactly like this games....

Be kind^^ it is my first list...

Nearly the first game we played. She really likes the pieces. And she has more luck in rolling dice than the devil himself. One Game (4 Players) she conquered the nearly the whole world map and the underworld. I think it was the last game of Risk-Godstorm I played...

my opinion: I hate risk. I hate dicefeasts....But she kills me if I sale it.

My then girlfriend, now fiancée also totally destroyed me by pure dicerolls. A single soldier managed to fend off my huge army and then she turned in her cards the next turn and proceeded to wipe clean the entire board thanks to the thinned out border and more lucky dicerolls.

Literally, she deathmarched her way up America, down Asia and into Australia in a single turn, leaving me with only random clusters of single soldiers and without a continent to my name. Unbeliveable but at least she had a good time.

She hates Spaceships. She hates Star wars. So why she loves Magblast? Also a game of our "early" gaming period, I think she likes the "backstabbing" aspect and that nobody fires at girls in the first place, so she can kill the stupid boys which are firing at each other....

my opinion:
I played it in my nearly 1000 times and loved it. Today i think it is a good "filler" game to start an evening with, but a little to random for my taste...

The old ones are cult. But only if you grown up with them...

The second sentence is the most important. If you were already an adult (and an adult not in the eighties but in the 2000s) when you saw them first you'd even think they are even more terrible than the new movies. I love star wars but I have grown up with it. My wife just can't understand what's so great in these movies. And I can understand it: terrible dialogues, bad acting (save for some exceptions) and lots of things that were novelties back in their time but have been overused since. If you saw them first as a child the childhood wonder is connected to the experience.

We bought this game for our greece holiday. We played it for over 3 weeks (backpacking) every day, because it was the only game we had :-). We gambled which one of us will win the most times. The price was a big meal to cook. I won 75 to 32 and enjoyed the meals :-). Although I kicked her ass she really likes the game. Maybe because you can get your "enemy" on the nerves and enjoy his amazed phase if he flippes a medusa card...

my opinion:
still like it, but not a game I often mention to play...

She loves Tolkien. She really loves Tolkien. But why does she not love War of the Ring:
One simple Reason. I think nearly all girls hate complex rules, and i hate the rulebook. We played 3 times and at the first two times I made a military victory against Sauron. Maybe she should give it another chance, because she is soooo much better in gaming as 5 years ago...

my opinion:
bought the game. bought the expansion. nearly never played. When I am alone without her with a friend we play other games like hammer of scots. Hope to revive it soon.

She likes Jack the Ripper ( evil girl^^) since we played an oldschool point and click adventure (sherlock holmes vs jack the ripper). The theme is not really "gory ripper style", maybe she likes the game much more because of this. Bluffing seems one of the game mechanisms she likes most. But we will see....

my opinion:
The game has very good ideas. I think it is not 100% balanced but we play for the fun, don't we?

Disagree.

The last time my wife and I played she won, while playing Jack. She played it brilliantly and snuck Jack right out of the city halfway through the game.

One game made by Stefan Feld, which is in the same gaming club like me. Because of this (and because many games are good he made) I bought it and played it with some of our friends. She loved it soooo much that we had to play it three times at the same evening... She likes it for the same reason i really like it: it is differend from the normal "euro" games and you have much to laugh when your opponents lose piece after piece...

my opinion:
one of the freshes games I played the last years. The gaming material is not the best, as usual by alea games...

She realllly likes it. We played with four persons and the map is to big for this. But there is much to do and the rules turned out to be not very difficult at all.

Next we will try Steam and Age of Steam because we are normally less than 5 players.
