I consider myself a post video gamer. I used to play hours and hours of video games for entertainment but it was mostly a solitary activity. When I discovered board games I found that the social aspect was so much more rewarding. So now great board games have been coming out in digital form that can be played on the table in a similar way.

My son and I have played Zooloretto on iPhone and scaled up on the iPad many more times than the physical copy of Zooloretto. With setup and break down time reduced to nothing and scores instantly tallied we can play three games in the same time as one of the physical game. Also, with the price coming in at 5 dollars or less (after you spend hundreds on the unit, granted) you feel like you really get a lot of value out of it.

Lately there has been a string of announcements of some great games making their way to the digital medium. Here's a list of a few. Please add any news about up and coming games you run across, bonus points for source links.

Check out http://ndhalluin.free.fr ... works GREAT! Well, almost great -- the new interface is prettier than before, but you can't do a mouse-hover on iphone/ipad, so you can't see the card text any more.

Edit: the site has moved HERE!

iPad 2 details should be announced this coming week, so you'll either a.) get a first-gen version for cheaper or b.) get a (hopefully) better version for the same price. Also, there are plenty of great games already available, so there's no real need to wait if good board games are what you're looking for.

Will be coming to the iPad mid 2011 according to the announcement here:

http://boardgamegeek.com/article/5829404#5829404

"The Alien Frontiers iPad app will be a fully functional game utilizing all of the rules in Tory Niemann's game design. It will allow for solo play against multiple AIs or pass-and-play gaming between friends. Networked gaming is not planned for the initial release but may be added at a later date. The app will include fun in-game achievement awards and unlockable content such as the much-sought-after "Space Crane" Alien Tech card.

The art and graphic design of the Alien Frontiers board game has earned high praise and the iPad app will feature all of Mark Maxwell's incredible game art and Karim Chakroun's outstanding iconography.

It is anticipated that Alien Frontiers will be available in the AppStore by mid-2011. Pricing has not yet been determined but is likely to fall between $4.99 and $9.99"

I can't find any official announcement anywhere, but check out this picture: http://www.milan-spiele.de/spielemesse/2011_01/IMG_1712.jpg?...

That's from a series of pictures from the International Toy Fair Nürnberg 2011, and you can clearly see that (in Germany at least) Cartagena is coming to the iPad. Cannot wait.

We announced this today for the iPhone as part of our roll-out of _High Society_. We'll definitely be doing the _Modern Art_ version and we're looking into the costs to do the _Masters Gallery_ version as well.

I hope to see it by December 31, but it could push into next year.

Good idea to separate the upcoming titles from the released ones. Are you going to remove them from this list when they get released?

I think only the OP can choose how a Geeklist is ordered.

Also, make sure you check out the other lists he links for games that are already out on the various devices.

Saberj wrote:
The app is now on the App Store, for those that are interested. It comes with 220 "Characters", as well as a free "Inventions" pack for $5. There are an additional 220 characters available as an in-app purchase of $5 as well. You can also mix and match the sets. So you could do names & inventions, for instance.

I really hope to see some of the Titles added in later, because title recall is my favorite, but we've memorized just about everything in that set. Still, it was cool to see Inventions, which I had never seen before. So I'm assuming it's new.

Unfortunately, it's NOT available as a native iPad app from what I can tell. It has the normal 2x option available. That's a little lame, especially considering the price compared to other iphone/ipod games. Up to $10 for all of the questions. Not that it's necessarily outrageous, if you are a fan. But it seems pretty barebones, especially when it doesn't even have a nice iPad UI.

And Tikal as well!
