Mario is by far the most recognizable video game character in the universe! He has had tons of successes and failures, but what is the favorite title among the entire VideoGameGeek user base? It's like the census, get everyone to you know to post a response because I am very curious to know what the consensus is among the users of this site.

This is just one of my many favorite Mario titles, but I will limit myself to one at this point in time.

By far the funniest Mario title I've ever played. The first boss had me laughing out loud, and the whole wrestling level was hilarious. The art style in paper theme is really well-done, and the whole game just makes me smile.
Also, the gameplay is pretty good from an RPG standpoint, with a cast of characters with differing abilities that work in and out of combat, and the option of choosing your advancement on level up. The badge system is really fun, and lets you customize your abilities to each situation.

Does this one count, or is it cheating?

For nostalgic reasons Super Mario Bros. 3 is probably my favorite game of all time. There are a lot of great Mario games though. Not counting compilations, there are five Mario games I've rated 10.

I almost placed a comment/vote on previous item. If I was posting a month ago, when this GeekList came out, I'd certainly do just that. I love Super Mario World; so much that I just couldn't really enjoy a Mario game since that one until the original Super Mario Galaxy, but it still didn't shadow the greatest of them all (up to that time).
And then, I played this. And all I can say is: wow. This is, hands down, the most fun I've ever had with Mario. Id does everything every previous game has done well, excluding everything that didn't work out that well. And then some.
Great game. If you haven't played it yet, do so. Really.

As far as this posting goes, I gotta be honest that the Galaxy games as well as Super Mario 3 would normally go before this. Not taking anything away from Mario Kart 64, those are just iconic games that I really played to death.
Nothing though was better for some serious multiplayer mayhem than Mario Kart 64. I'm looking at you Goldeneye! I would take a Mt. Dew infused all nighter at Kart over Odd Job sniping any day.
