My future wife and I have been dusting off a lot of my boardgames in the last few months. This is just a list of what we've been playing, what she's been enjoying, what's she's been tolerating, and what she's been straight up HATING...

This is probably the most played game in our collection right now. It's really quick to setup, really portable, and playable in under an hour. We've had many tense games with the eight available factions so far. She's hung up on the Phoenix Elves, though. And to be honest, Prince Elian Rodriguez' ranged special ability is really tough to get around. But get around it I do (once in a while). We both can't wait for the Master Set to come out. It'll add another six factions to the seven I use to try to beat her Phoenix Elves down with.

We've played more games of this in the last few days than anything else in our collection. She broke into the deck-building genre with Ascension, and this was just such an easy one to pick up after that. We're waiting on the Intrigue set just to see how much more mischief she can wreak on me. She does like the Militia card in the base set for some odd reason...

Really sweet game with an oft-maligned graphic design I actually enjoy. Great intro to deck-building for the both of us. We're looking forward to the card expansion!

This is one of the games that she keeps in her car for the times I visit her at work. She can shellack me in this game like nobody's business.

This is like that favorite album we have playing in the background while we have a spot of dinner and conversation. Gets played a lot with the revealed ending and first one to the top variant.

This scaled really well for us with just two players. Hard not to make the 'bom chiki wow wow' noise when you're creating new villagers...

This one is a lot of fun. This is really an easy game to teach, and a very excellent entry into the co-op genre. Be warned, Castle Ravenloft was not a good second step for this particular couple...

We play this with a group, usually. This can get really vicious unintentionally-let alone deliberately...

Just played our first game of this tonight. I think it'll be a hit in the long run. Stay tuned... I like dice...

I'm pretty sure she was just humoring me when we played this. But to her credit, she didn't say she hated it.

She likes throwing my meeples into the volcano... She's actually quite brutal enough to kill four of her own family to take out one of mine. Talk about collateral damage.

This was a fail. After a promising first game the other night, this night's attempt ended in a lot of head-shaking and frustration. Something about the turn order really turned her off this one. That and she felt like the game hammered us a little too hard. In all honesty, I think it might have had something to do with the fact that her Dwarven Cleric kept on soaking up most of the hits in the game...
And I guess, just like life before her, there's always solitaire play.

She insisted I add this one. And I have to admit, I enjoyed the last time we played. I think I may have been uncomfortably in love with the new "speed die" though. Other than that, with the right people, it can still be pretty entertaining.

This was a hit! It actually plays very well with two players.

I could not win this game to save my life. A string of bad rolls can really make your pirate life a living hell. We had a blast, though.

We played this three times today. Could not avoid calling the red courtesan cards "hookers".

I can't believe it took me this long to finally play this. I'm verrrry glad she liked it. I truly love the elegance of this game.

This game was so easy to teach, and contained just enough screwage to get her spiteful side out in the open :-)

Despite her reservations, turns out she's got a knack for this game. Deck building might not be in her future, but my friend Dragonstout put together some fun decks for us to play with. Was our most played game this weekend!
