The Eye of the Gods. For as long as you can remember, your father searched for the Eye. The gateway to a new world and a life of everlasting peace. Some say it’s a myth. Others say it existed once but the fates have destroyed it to prevent contamination of our world with a would-be-paradise. But a few believe. Your father got close - and promised that after he found the portal, he would return and take you and your mother through to a safe place, free from the daily worries and dangers that plague the world you live in now. That was almost 20 years ago - and he never returned from his expedition to the Greymoor Mountains. The Mountains of Madness, or so they are known, have long been a mysterious place which few mortals dared to cross. They are so named because many who attempt to cross them wind up with few wits with which to cope with life. The terrible creatures are only part of the problem - and the slow march into derangement has claimed more than a few poor souls.

In the fateful days leading up to your decision to follow in your father’s footsteps there was much trepidation. You tried to make it in this harsh world but too often life’s pains bore down on you. The time has come for action. You gather what few bits of equipment you own and head to the Tavern of The Falling Leaves.

Your equipment currently consists of: Rusty Longsword (+0), well-worn Tunic, some old Leather Boots and 2 gold pieces.

Welcome to the Mountains of Madness!

This geeklist is for 2P adventures only. If you're looking for the 1P adventure Geeklist, go here instead: The Mountains of Madness - 1P Adventure

When you have read and fully understood the rules in the master news post you can add your geeklist entry below and wait for a Game Master to start your adventure. Be sure to provide the following information in your initial geeklist posting:

Name
Race Class
Combat +X
Fortitude +X
Reflexes +X
Willpower +X
Hit Points X
Sanity Points X

Both players should give this information - the geeklist entry by player 1 should be followed-up by a comment from player 2 with their starting information. The adventure will not begin until both players have posted their information. Remember, they post to the same (single) geeklist entry. Please don't screw this up

Remember, the Game Masters are busy running the adventure and it may be a day or two before they start your adventure. Subscribe to your geeklist item so you know when your Game Master has started the adventure. Do your best to check in often and with some hard work, we'll get everyone through the adventure.

Good luck and may fortune smile upon you!

Very good. You pick up the potion and presuming that Irae has no last minute things to do in the city (if so, we can rewind) you head for the palace.

Chapter 4-6 Royal Mountain: Giant Royal Palace

With a backward glance and a determined stare you decide it’s time to press forward. As you travel down the road toward the Royal Palace, you pause to take in the sight of it. Huge stone towers rise up, while ramparts protect the walls from danger and destruction. The palace is incredibly massive – large enough to house the Giant Royal Family and all of the town-folk in times of danger – and probably qualifies as the largest, and oldest, structure you have ever seen.

Each of the 28 rooms you investigate is ornately decorated with hieroglyphic murals depicting historic scenes, horizontal bands, 5 and 6 pointed stars, and strange dot patterns. You find more than one room that has fallen prey to time and the elements, strewn with fallen stones and large areas eroded away. In the throne room a long mural series depicts a strange eye symbol on the top of every scene. You get excited as you realize that this must be the symbol for the Eye of the Gods! The very thing you have come to seek!

The mural shows a small group of people entering the palace and looking around. The people search for others but find no one. The great eye watches the group, hovering like a constant companion. At first the eye looks kind and compassionate, and then becomes stoic and aloof, and finally angry. In the last panel the eye is surrounded by flames and the group of people all lay dead.

As you finish your study of the mural, you realize that the palace is eerily quiet and you have not seen another living being since you entered. It dawns on you that the mural may be depicting your fate - you must find a way out of the royal palace!

Please describe in as much detail as you like how you find a way to escape from the royal palace. Be as creative as you can.

Irae is in awe as she looks around at the ornate decorations. She tries to find meaning in the many patterns and dots. 'Is there something I'm missing?' she wonders. "What do you think, Rotgut?" This reminds me of the madness of the false image of our father - it seems like there's a deceptive illusion here. I distrust this madness."

At this point, Irae is disturbed by the creepy silence of the palace. She wants to examine the palace further, but decides she must continue through it. "Let's get out of here!" She runs recalls the layout of the palace and tries to make her way through as quickly as possible out of the palace - heading forward, away from the city.

Rotgut steels his mind against the omen in the mural. He follows Irae through several rooms, until they come to a room that lies mostly in ruin. "Wait," he says. "Look here how these blocks have fallen in. I think we can squeeze through this gap in the stonework and reach the outside."

Panic-stricken, you fumble around in the royal palace for hours, looking for a way out. The front doors are closed and locked, too big for you to open on your own. The eroded areas of the palace walls open to high sheer cliffs much too dangerous to try and travel down. After several hours you emerge from the rear of the palace, mentally exhausted. The mental exertion and stress cause you each to lose 1 SP. Forever you wander the palace... hearing voices and laughter and screams of Giants and Adventurers. Lost. Forever lost.

The line between reality and fantasy has blurred to the point where you can no longer distinguish it. Visions, thoughts and feelings blend together into a jumbled mess. Perhaps this is all a dream? After all, these horrors can’t be real... can they? Or, just maybe, you are now one of the horrors you sought to defeat. Forever trapped in a mortal shell in an endless struggle to stop other would-be adventurers from going where you have gone.

Your adventure has concluded, brave adventurer. We want to thank you for playing The Mountains of Madness. Within a few days you will receive all microbadges and geekgold due - please be patient. In the meantime, we invite you to kick back at the Tavern of the Falling Leaves for some stories both brave and bold. You can enter the tavern by clicking here. The design team and GMs that brought you this adventure feed off of the stories told in the Tavern - so please feel free to contribute to the post-adventure fun! In addition, we would love for you to rate this adventure - you can do so by visiting the official Mountains of Madness RPG entry and at the bottom you can ‘Add Information’ to give it a rating and comment.

You slip off the path and around the giants; their gaze never wavers toward you, and you reach the gates. You see a great brass lock with a keyhole and a combination! It will require all your wits to get past - but, more than that, it will require skill manoeuvring the tumblers. After a few moments, the lock clicks open with a firm snap. The hair on the back of your neck rises as you feel the giants finally turn toward you – you dive through the gate, but not before one of their massive axes cuts deeply into you! You take 1 HP of damage. Sadly, this is your last... fade to black.

You have died facing the Mountains of Madness. But let no person doubt your heart and conviction. The mortal shell which you call your body has given out. While the spirit remained willing it cannot do so without help from the flesh and blood which drives it. As light fades to black you think back over your adventure and can’t help but smile. Bravery and valor were yours, dear adventurer. And nothing can take that away.

Your adventure has concluded, brave adventurer. We want to thank you for playing The Mountains of Madness. Within a few days you will receive all microbadges and geekgold due - please be patient. Prelude - The Tavern
The barkeep, Sama, has been busily serving patrons this fine fall day. The harvest festival is nearly upon the town and the locals are getting in their last cozy visits to their favorite watering hole before tourists flourish here and take the place over for a week. You’ve already been mistaken for a harvest-goer by more than a few locals. You look around and see a few friendly faces among the crowd. Perhaps one of them would make a fine adventuring partner on your journey. Then again, it may be best to go this alone. That choice remains yours. In the meantime, one well-dressed halfling patron, who may have had more than his share of ale, comes up to you and offers to play a simple game for a wager. He describes the game as follows:

~ The Barbarian Dice Game ~

“You see, it’s easy. Even a child can play! This game requires us to cast these strangely shaped gaming pieces which the gods call ‘dice’. I’ve got five such pieces, one with four sides, one with six sides, one with eight, one with ten and one with twelve. For some reason, Barbarians are fondest of the 12-sider but I’ve no idea why. Anyway, we roll all five dice each and we compare results. For every like-sided die that you roll higher on, you get a point. Whomever has the most points is the winner. You, fine friend, break all ties. How can you lose?! What do you say? Shall we wager?”

You may decline to play or you can wager 1 or 2 gold. This game is available to both you and your adventuring partner separately if playing in a 2P game. The choice is now yours. If you decide to wager and play, please use the geek-randomizer to roll five separate rolls: 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10 and 1d12.

Damn! This seems so unfair... there was a weak spot but it's not the scales... damn!!

The great old one over-powers you in mind, body, and spirit. It eviscerates you with a mere flick of its claw, causing you grievous injury! You start to fall into darkness as the Titan comes in for the final blow. Somewhere between death and insanity, your body fails.

To make it more dramatic I'm breaking it up.

Aiden moves in and makes two quick slashes...

1d20+3+1 = (10) + 3 + 1 = 14

Thanks again, Dave. It's been great fun. A really well-designed adventure.

And Shannon, I really enjoyed that. When we recover from being dead, we should consider doing a little Play by Forum like this, something with a casual tempo and small but regular time commitment.

"Hail James. I'd offer to shake yer hand but," he gestures as best he can from within in the netting, "it seems I'm a bit tied up. However, " Threadbare quickly cuts himself free from the trap and lands with a loud crack on the ground. "Ooof. There." He stands up, sheathes his sword, and then bows deeply from the waist.

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, King James." Threadbare straightens and laughs himself. "You honor me by speaking the tongue of my fathers, but hopefully you'll forgive my appearance." He attempts to brush the dirt from his pants as he speaks. "I'm not dressed for court. But, judging by your demeanor, you're naught the type of king to stand on ceremony. I'll try not to waste yer time then."

"I've been on a quest. A family quest started by my father before I was but a lad. It is this quest that brings me into your kingdom. I'm am trying to find a portal to another world. I think that portal is near here and that my father is lost on the other side of that portal. Hopefully you'll forgive my intrusion upon your camp and give me leave to pass through your kingdom."

The Lizard King stares at you in shock - you have offended him deeply! "Your father?! Do you know that a lizard never knows his father. There are reasons for it that shall not be spoken here!" He makes a quick arm motion, and the other creatures launch their spears at you. You move to defend yourself, but one strikes your arm for 1 HP damage. You flee from the horde as they roar behind you: “Try to set that adventurer on fire!”!

The last thing you remember is being surrounded by lizard-folk pushing spears deep into your sides... and then brine water ... and then darkness.

You have died facing the Mountains of Madness. But let no person doubt your heart and conviction. The mortal shell which you call your body has given out. While the spirit remained willing it cannot do so without help from the flesh and blood which drives it. As light fades to black you think back over your adventure and can’t help but smile. I cry "For Roland!" as I begin to gambol around the titan hoping to keep him off-balance with a series of nimble attacks.

Attack #1 1d20+5 = (5) + 5 = 10

You do not need to mourn Roland... for this GM has made a mistake with the Minotaur. His one hit saved him the extra 1HP of damage he would have taken... there was still life in his body and he has followed behind you. His sacrificial sword allowed you to get past the ancient guardian. His approach through the crypt and maze were unhindered as he was able to follow in the Dwarfs heavy bootprints. He arrives just as you attack the Titan and using his original rusty sword, manages to flank the beast just as Barad gives him the finishing blow!

You smile at each other. Even "death" could not keep you from completing your quest - and now you both stand alive at the gateway. You stand over the titan and do what few before you have done - survey the Eye of the Gods with no immediate danger in sight.

At the threshold, Roland finds 2d6 = (1 + 3) = 4 gold while Barad finds 2d6 = (3 + 3) = 6 (+2!) more.

You labor to catch your breath. The Titan lays before you defeated. Is this the really the end? You stare at the falling mists of the giant stone portal before you. The Eye of the Gods! This is what your father sought. There is no turning back - you stagger forward with what strength you have left. As you cross the threshold the mist surrounds you and pulls you forward. Behind you is darkness. Ahead, a soft white light - almost featureless until you see a silhouette appear. Small at first but growing larger as you are pulled forward - no longer under your own power. The shadows disappear and the figure in front of you is revealed - your father stands before you. He smiles brightly, “I’ve been waiting, my child. I knew you would find your way here eventually. I’m sorry I was unable to return, for the portal only goes one way. But I knew... and never lost hope that you would follow.” Is this real? Perhaps you’ve really gone insane instead? It doesn’t matter... this is your reality now and there is no going back. You and your father step forward into a new world.

Congratulations, you will receive the special winning microbadge:

This is it. My whole life has led to this point. All of my experience and lessons have trained me for this. Though my foe seems mighty, I must prevail!

I must be careful to avoid its blows. My aim must be true. The left hand. The left hand. I must sever it!

With all my might, skill, willpower and courage, I aim to defeat this great beast and claim my family's birthright!

Attack #1 1d20+3+2 = (9) + 3 + 2 = 14

Attack #2 1d20+3+2 = (16) + 3 + 2 = 21

Attack #3 1d20+3+2 = (18) + 3 + 2 = 23

The final blow! 1d20+3+2 = (7) + 3 + 2 = 12

You have become a seasoned adventurer on this trip, and no matter what the giant beast does, you are ready for it. You easily determine the beast’s weakness! You masterfully cut into the terrifying creature, taking off several tentacles and the left hand. This hobbles the beast and though it continues to come after you, it is easily bested! You stand over the titan and look around - you have Survived! You find 2d6 = (5 + 6) = 11 gold.

Since the adventure closes tomorrow night, I'll assume to the palace!

You wander through the halls unable to find an exit.

The Site-Wide event ended at 10PM last night... but as this would be the Cleric's last sanity (and Gratch not far behind)...

Fighter and Rogue... a strong combination but unfortunately the swamp, the adventure and eventually the die roller have gotten the best of you. You skirmish with the lizard-folk and the Lizard King and both suffer 1 HP of damage each. The Rogue fades to black while he hears the Lizard King speak... ”This is the end...my only friend... the end,”. The Rogue sinks into the swamp.

The fighter, however, uses his special ability to transmute the last point of damage into 1 SP damage instead. Using all his efforts, he manages to land two solid blows upon the Lizard King - felling him. The other lizardfolk bow to you, and you hurry on your way. For your efforts, you find a pouch on the fallen King containing 1d4 = (4) = 4 gold.

Alone... Moonli continues the quest.

Chapter 4 - The Valley of Giants

Chapter 4-1 – The City Gates
Beyond the swamp the path widens – enough so that four of you could easily walk abreast – and ascends again. Before long, you see above a massive wall built into the mountainside, with two great golden gates blocking the path ahead. Three blond giants stand before the gates, their arms crossed over enormous axes and shields as they stare straight ahead. Their attention is so focused on the path that perhaps you could sneak around them to open the gates – but even from here you can see the imposing lock that guards them.

The choice is yours... you may choose to confront the giants in combat or to sneak around them. If you attack, you can assume the City Guards are AC15 and you are free to make your four attacks now. If you sneak around and unlock the gate, please roll a Reflex Challenge at DC14.

You hurry forward and fell two of the giants before they can react, but the third lands a great blow before you trip it and send it tumbling down the mountain! This blow, unfortunately, deals 1 HP damage. Sadly, you only outlasted your brother by a few hundred yards and die at the threshold to the Giant City.

The mental exertion and stress cause you to lose 1 SP. Forever more, you wander the royal halls...

And it finally ends for our dynamic-lazurus-duo!

The line between reality and fantasy has blurred to the point where you can no longer distinguish it. Visions, thoughts and feelings blend together into a jumbled mess. Perhaps this is all a dream? The great old one over-powers you in mind, body, and spirit. It eviscerates you with a mere flick of its claw, causing you grievous injury! You start to fall into darkness as the Titan comes in for the final blow. Somewhere between death and insanity, your body fails.

You have died facing the Mountains of Madness. But let no person doubt your heart and conviction. The mortal shell which you call your body has given out. I'm special 'cuz: Once per game I can replace any single missed attack (after making the attack roll) with a magic missile for an auto-hit and I can actually see my toes. Unusual for a dwarf! Mind you that brings the question of why anyone would want to see a dwarf's toes. Not a sight for children I assure you.

You take 1 HP of damage and slip into darkness...

Insanity instead! Cool!

Fedpra Dewroot was a young wizard, as far as wizards go. He had only seen the dawn of one age, and often was ribbed for it. His hair, while white, had not quite taken on the kind of glow that often accompanies the wizened, and his eyebrows not quite wild enough. His spells sometimes fell short, not quite aged long enough to truly dip into the arcane stream. So when the it came time for one of The Circle to accompany Fernando to the Mountains of Madness, Fedpra was chosen. He thought it was so he could protect his human companion... but as always is the case with these things, he would himself change before the journey was over.

As long as the journey began...

Sitting with his cloak over his ears, Fedpra had been waiting to begin the journey... waiting... Where the hell was that "Fernando the Fearless"?

Fedpra sees him enter:

Fernando the Fearless, AKA Fernando the Foolhardy, fancies himself as... well actually, Fernando just fancies himself. He also thinks himself an agile blade-master, but he is quite wrong on that count. His daring acts and big mouth usually end up getting him and his ex-companions into trouble, but he seems to roll with the punches (sometimes literally) reasonably well. This next quest may well to be his most deadly yet; let's hope he doesn't make it through. Because if he does, he's going to be impossible to live with.

Fernando joins Fedpra at the table and the wizard grumbles a greeting.

Fernando's bravado is beginning to slip as he faces the door, but he still manages a smile. "Giants? Terrible trouble with small doors like this one. And nasty pieces of work; I'd quite like to gut one or two of them. Mountains? Well, I'm sure there are plenty of friendly folk like you around, but most things I've met have tried to kill me, just like they probably killed my father. So, if you'd let us through, I've got some revenge in mind, hopefully to get rid of the dark forces in these mountains once and for all, for the sake of nice people like you." Fernando's smile has turned into a frightening smirk by the end of his speech.

The Wizard places his hand on Fernando's elbow to steady him.

When there is evil to fight, Giants to kill, and a Wyvern to destroy, why question friendship? If our journey serves your purpose, then today, call us allies. Frankly, we could use the help, and your brethren could be a welcome sight.

You start off so well and manage to fell two of the Giants before they can even react. But they gather their wits as they rush forward to meet your bold attack. Before you realize it, you are overwhelmed. Having only landed one hit each, the remaining Giants pummel you each for 1 HP of damage. This is, unfortunately, enough to cause your worlds to fade to black.

You have died facing the Mountains of Madness. But let no person doubt your heart and conviction. The mortal shell which you call your body has given out. The mental exertion and stress cause you to lose 1 SP. You wander for the rest of your days in the palace... hearing voices of other adventurers and knowing that perhaps they too will join you on the other side...

The path has been long and arduous. The Phantom Stranger has travelled to many lands, from distant Carcosa to nearby Hillville in search of the three-legged man, but do you know how hard it is to find a guy who can run 1.5 times as fast as you can??

Your mind reels from the horrifying words, and you back away from the Tome after suffering 1 SP damage. The ancient giant cackles, flicks his wrist, and you find yourself back outside the Library!

The end is drawing near! Where to next? You may, of course, try the book again (DC13).

Why not? The only thing I have left to lose is my sanity, since my dear, dear Baradimir passed on... Frankly, sanity is over-rated anyway.

Lemme at that book!!!

1d20+3 = (1) + 3 = 4

Wow. Stats are terrible things to have in this game, apparently!

I curl up into a non-Euclidean ball and cry...

Fantastic!

The book consumes you. No, not the flesh, but the mind. You forever wander around the library trying to tell visitors of the fantastic information it contains. Goading them into opening it to see for themselves. Like a spider trapping flies... forever.

You begin to scale the column of eyes; the pitted stone is easy enough to climb. But before long, laughter surrounds you and two huge booted feet slam into your midsection! Peals of deep laughter ring out around you, and you turn to see the giant children pointing at you. You hurry upward, but more and more bodies slam into you as you climb!

The giant children are simply too heavy for you – you manage to climb a few more feet before another buffet sends you reeling, and you crash to the ground. You take 1 HP points of damage. The childrens’ insults cut you deep, but worse are the wounds which are too much for your mortal coil to take. You fade to black...

I'll assume that I'm correct, and roll for the combat here. If I'm wrong, and the weapon wouldn't count, we can just subtract three from the numbers that appear.

Attack #1 1d20 + 5 = (11) + 5 = 16

Attack #2 1d20 + 5 = (15) + 5 = 20

Attack #3 1d20 + 5 = (9) + 5 = 14

Attack #4 1d20 + 5 = (11) + 5 = 16

Yes... it is +5... and so close. I feel badly!

While the spirit remained willing it cannot do so without help from the flesh and blood which drives it. As light fades to black you think back over your adventure and can’t help but smile. Level 3-2a - The Lava Field

With the salamander behind you, the tunnel spirals steeply downward. Heat slowly builds – first it feels refreshing after the icy air of the mountains, but soon it reaches a sweltering crescendo, and the sweat pours from your brow.

Then you see a red glow ahead, and after a few more twists and turns the path opens into another enormous cavern – this one full of lava, bubbling and boiling! Most of the floor has disintegrated, but a narrow path remains along the cavern’s side. You begin to cross, but the intense heat exhausts you, and it is difficult to move your feet!

Um... wow! Zero. Yikes...

The heat exhausts you, and fall to your knees halfway across the cavern – but your feet slip as well, and your right foot dips into the lava! The lava sears your very soul, and you take 1 HP damage! Fortunately, the pain provides enough motivation to hurry through the rest of the lava cavern, and before long the heat recedes and you leave the lava behind you.

Feldspar's quest has ended.

On the doorstep to the Tavern of Falling leaves, I take one last look around, savouring my last moment before the start of what I know will be my greatest adventure. Turning my head back towards the tavern door, a lone elf, walking along the path to the tavern catches my eye. Something is familiar strange about him. As he moves closer I realize why he looks so familiar: not only is his tunic identical to mine (right down to the little stain on the front), but he also carries a rusty longsword, which bears an eerie resemblance to my own.

As he draws level with me, I introduce myself on an impulse. "My name is, uh Bolgar", I awkwardly begin, leaving out my embarrassing surname. After a moment of silence, I explain his creepy similarity to me and tell him of my mission. Another few moments of uncomfortable silence elapse before I finally ask him the question that I realize I have been leading this encounter to, "Care to join me?"

Special: The Cleric can heal himself or his teammate 1HP or 1SP once/game.

It had been several weeks since I had received any further message from my order. The last correspondence had told me to wait at the tavern and look for a sign before continuing my journey to Móinteán Liath (Greymoor in the common tongue).
After three days at the tavern, I began to grow anxious. Everywhere I saw suspicious looking characters, whom I knew I could not trust with the details of my quest to find the Eye of the Gods. Then I saw a roguish looking character, who seemed instantly familiar somehow. I knew that this must be the sign...

I mull silently over the riddle, before coming to the conclusion that 'left, right, and side to side' must refer to all the paths that are opposite each other. I am just about to state my thought when Cainte speaks up. I have no idea what a non-Euclidian is, but I agree to go down number 11.

You move down the passageway as fast as you can. There are triangles etched into the walls and they appear to be blinking at you. You hear movement and rumbling behind you. Something is chasing you! The breathing of a feral creature sounds in your ears, snorting and chomping. The passage starts to twist and turn. The etchings on the wall getting smaller and then larger. You see an angry eye floating in front of you and you stop and blink. You feel the heat of invisible flames burning into your mind. The sounds are all around you now, the breathing and snorting, the eye in front of you, your mind is racing… Eventually you turn and see an open area at the end of the path. As you move into the open area you see each other - and realize that you are now trapped in the middle of a maze you can neither begin to fathom nor have the emotional energy to conquer.

The mental anguish causes you to lose 1 SP each and you spend the rest of your days trapped in the maze.

"Yonder yonder yonder." Brogan's words echo in the emptiness as we stare at the Mountains of Madness. In point of fact, Brogan seems well on his way. The Jellyhearts, on the other hand, have always frowned at having at the scenery. But it's not to be helped; I've nothing yet to add to the family hoard, and all I gained from my father was this rusty longsword -- longer, indeed, than Paczki, even with my boots on. Just thinking about it makes me feel as clumsy as my large, awkward companion, and I am eager to find enough gold to arm myself in a fashion more suited to my bearing and stature.

Ah! Ye-olde-fighter-ability! This GM had forgotten that it remained unused. On the brink of death the fighter instead takes a sanity loss and keeps his body alive!

Brogan... you continue the quest!

(and yes, you can take the equipment from your friend but not any gold)

(Aw, crud, no gold?! Guess I was too busy running for my life from the lizardmen.)

Brogan stumbles along after running for what seemed like ages. He can't believe his stupid mouth has cost his friend his life. A rage builds up deep within... for failing his friend, for failing his family, for failing himself. Down inside, something changes.. and Brogan of the Purple Hand is determined that the next challenge in his path will not stand while he holds a sword in his hand.

Brogan doesn't sneak.. he charges the Giants. Brogan thinks to himself, These giants will go down by my blade... or I shall go down in a glorius battle against great odds. Maybe someone will sing or write something about it.....

Longsword Overhead Smash:1 1d20+1+1 = (7) + 1 + 1 = 9
Longsword Viscious slash:2 1d20+1+1 = (15) + 1 + 1 = 17
Longsword Reverse Slash:3 1d20+1+1 = (11) + 1 + 1 = 13
Longsword Thrust:4 1d20+1+1 = (18) + 1 + 1 = 20

You hurry forward and fell two of the giants before they can react, but the third lands a great blow before you trip it and send it tumbling down the mountain! In the skirmish you suffer your final 1 HP damage as the giants finally overcome the last of your strength.

I'm new to the dice roller. If I edit a comment with dice in it, will the dice stay the same or will they inadvertently re-roll, getting me booted from the game? My typos are already making me crazy.

Thanks,
Tim

Indeed. The rolls, once made, are locked in. They're even recorded for posterity on the original Item post itself -- a safeguard against clever players (or GMs devil ) trying to manipulate the system.
