I observed something strange at Gencon this year that I don't what to make of.
This year I saw a large number of women who where not booth babes, costumers nor LARPers dressed up as if they were about to go out to a dance club.
I'm talking high-heels, fishnets, mesh shirts, and short skirts. While I totally enjoy women dressing up, I can not understand why they would attend Gencon dressed like that. The high-heels alone are a complete mystery given the amount of walking that one does at a convention.

I think the answer is obvious. Gamers are dead-sexy. The women are just going where the action is.

God bless the creators of Anime, LARP's, and the heoric fantasy artists. All their hard work brainwashing up to this point has finally paid off.

Love the above answer and although I don't disagree, I think there might be another answer. Hmmmm, convention, out of town men, and some women, ah....work for a living.

That happened to me at my hotel in GenCOn SoCal, but I didn't see any of that in Indy. I did get hit on three times ... and I was with my wife! Go figure. Maybe something in the water?

GenCon is by far the largest convention of the year for Indianapolis. I'm sure many of these, ah, ladies have a complete schedule of every convention in the city. Could be a possible explination.

I am not buying it. I think this is a fallacy. I demand photgraphic evidence.
Seriously.
Got any pictures?

Seems like that provides inspiration enough for an "Emira" spin-off game set a gaming convention where Geeks not only score points by collecting different types of new desirable new games but also by collecting different types of those enterprising high-heeled & fishnet-stockinged young ladies for their weekend Geek harem.
The Geek Factor wrinkle of this new game: You would actually score more points by collecting the most different types of games but score fewer points when leaving the convention floor to collect some of those enterprising high-heeled & fishnet-stockinged young ladies. (Still, if you can't get acquire one of more of the higher-pointed games at the convention, the ladies option offers you alternative ways to sco-- er, uh, *rack up some points* -- and maybe just enough to tilt the balance in end-game scoring.) In the tradition of that time-honored story, "The Lady Or The Tiger," it might be called "The Geek Games OR The Ladies?"

Of the 3 or 4 cons I have attended in the past year or so, I agree with Mike.
However, I really don't care why its happening.

That would be my guess.
I wonder how many of their solicitations end something like this: "No thanks, for that much I could get a copy of Dark Tower AND Roads and Boats!"

The price is prohibitive. At last year's convention, I found that even a 30-minute game of Citadels with one of the ladies was about $150 (before tip). I want to say it was $175 if you wanted to include some cards from the Dark City expansion.

They are paid by the organizers to show up and bring some friends to try and make the Con appear more hip than it actually is.
They are there to make you feel better about being into boardgames and hot dogs, instead of gettin laid and moving our of your parents basement. All in the name of getting you and your friends to show up again next year.
Geeks are not Geeks. They are just girl attracting challenged.

Personally, I like:

I assume 'RopeCon' is either something to do with the location or a clever contraction of 'roleplaying' - or indeed maybe something entirely different in Finnish - rather than a bondage convention where people happen to play a lot of boardgames. If it's the latter, you're sharing all the wrong pictures

The number of hot women attending Gencon has been rising over the years. That is not what has me perplexed. It is how they dress that has raised my .... eyebrows.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the chain mail bikini top at GenCon was that I hope it's lined. Otherwise there would be chafing. Ouch.

Could be a weird trend no-one has told you about. We had one of those a few years back: all of a sudden, one year, the whole convention was full of girls in various sorts of leather and pvc-costumes you'd usually expect to see in a adult-oriented store. It was really wierd since as far as I know, there was no explanation for such a large number of females picking such costumes.
Oh, and Ropecon is derived from "roolipeli" which is RPG in finnish. When we want to shorten "roolipelit", we talk about "rope"s, not RPGs. Although I have no doubt that the tying up connotations are also intentional.
