Just wondering which BGGers might be around for the convention - my second time at Manorcon and my third convention

Gonna see if I can beat my 4th place in the diplomacy tournament of last year and have some fun with some other games

EDIT: oops posted it twice it seems >.< - deleted the other one...

I'll be there, hopefully from the very beginning to the very end. If you arrive between 4 & 5pm Friday you may see me on the registration desk.

I'm attending. Not sure when I'm leaving though. I thought it would finish Sunday afternoon, but now I realise that its actually running through Monday. It'll be interested to see how many stay over.

I go every year with a few of my friends. With the last two years during the upheaval at Birmingham screwing everyone about, I'm hoping the new venue at Leicester will improve matters greatly. Access to the site sounds a damn sight easier than Birmingham (M1 plus about 4 turns), and the facilities sound good too.

Fingers crossed.

About half the attendees leave on Sunday, and about half stay over to Monday.

Yes, it is much easier to find, although note that those 4 turns are over the space of 4-5 miles!

Unfortunately, for the first time in about ten years, I won't be there as I'll be flying to Chicago instead. (Work. I didn't pick the date. But it's not all bad. I also get some leave while there.)

Sounds pretty much all bad to me. First you miss ManorCon. And second, you then get leave to take when there isn't a convention you can get to. How much worse can it get?

My second Manorcon and I'll be there for the duration - it's the only time during the year I get to play games for more than a day, and with people who don't mind explaining (rather than just telling) you the rules.

Not that I'm excited or anything you understand!!!

Well, I get to take my leave in Chicago, a city I've heard is worth a visit. And I do have a games session lined up there.

My first time at Manorcon and looking forward to it. Is there a games library, or do people usually take games along?

There is no official library. Many people bring games, and by and large are happy to lend them, especially if you intend to play them somewhere in sight, and bring them back afterwards.

And I'll be there. Look out for my Dutch games auction, in its third thrilling year. There will be bargains (eventually, if your nerve holds).

Yes back at home-a great drive through the rain/floods.Is it the end of the world yet!

Played Puerto Rico,Shifting Sands,Roborally, and the new World cup football expansions from Shaun Derrick-I'll have a copy when you're ready please!

The Dip tournament seemed rather small (are all the Dip players getting too old!), but the amount of area available & the range of games were excellent.

Onto to Midcon !

It was actually pretty dry.

OK, it rained a little when arriving and on Saturday, but Sunday & Monday were almost completely dry in Leicester. Even the trip home to Cardiff wasn't too bad (train stopped by floods at Gloucester, back to Cheltenham, Bristol Parkway then home).

I thoroughly enjoyed the games & company - thanks to all who played with me. I particularly liked some of the games I hadn't played before: Brass (new Wallace game), Ark, Expedition (used game recomended by Paul), R-Eco, Traders of Carthage. Fagin's Gang was an "almost": I had a somewhat befuddled & bumped start, but warmed to it as the game progressed.

I didn't spot Mike Hibbert there, but I'm sure he mentioned he'd been planning to go. Hopefully his bit of Gloucester stayed above the water level.

[edit: just realised Mike had mentioned attending CastAreDice rather than Manorcon. Either way, I hope he kept his feet dry.]

Had a great time, and many thanks to all those who contributed to that.

Have mixed feelings though about the venue (University of Leicester, Stamford Hall). I liked Stamford House, with central bar and a variety of rooms to game in, and it gave the con a more intimate feel than did Birmingham in previous years. On the other hand, I didn't like the fact that we were split between two buildings, and therefore it was more difficult to see what games were starting, which people might be free to join, or friends in general. In previous years I would meet many new people and frequently play in groups of strangers, whereas this year I met fewer, and mostly gamed with friends.

Played Graenaland, Midnight Party, Power Play (Slapshot), Strange New Worlds, TrR Switzerland, Gloria Mundi, Iglu Iglu, Caylus Magna Carta, TransEuropa+Vexation, San Juan, Mission Red Planet, Quandary, Mexica, Werewolf, Canal Mania, Tichu, Augsberg 1520, Europa Tour. Several games there new to me, some I've really been wanting to play.

I agree, it went very well. More than anything, the difference at the new venue as an organiser was, whenever there was a problem, something that needed fixing or solving, etc, the University staff were always ready to do whatever they could to help, which meant that unless you saw a problem as it happened, you'd probably never know about it.

I agree. We were expecting that everybody would play in the main hall, except when there was an event going on where they'd move over to Stamford House. Indeed, until we found we couldn't use the main hall after midnight, we weren't going to have many tables available in Stamford House. But the draw of being close to the bar seemed to be bigger than the draw of being close to the food...

ManorCon will be back next year, on 25-28th July 2008, once again in Stamford Hall.

No surprise there; the bar was good, the food was terrible. Stamford House was also considerably warmer than the dining hall on the Friday. I never imagined that would be a factor at a convention in July.

It's Britain, Andy. Nothing the weather does should surprise you. To quote Flanders and Swann's version of the traditional verse "In July the sun is hot. Is it shining? No, it's not.".

As I missed it, most importantly from my perspective is did we get people to sign up for Sorcon? http://www.sorcon.co.uk

I went.

My first con and my first ever 7 player FTF Diplomacy. This was the reason for me going to Manorcon in the first place. So, there is some young blood coming in to the hobby. I'm not half as young as Tom tho! Everyone was really friendly ,which was nice. I'll be back next year.

The rain washed out my Friday plans, as I arrived over 4 hours later than I wanted, tired and hungry and the Dip was in fall 01. Grrr.

Saturday and Sunday were better, plenty of time in Diplomacy, which left me 10th out of 21 players. I wasn't staying on site, although I was staying in Leicester, so I didn't get to play much else, other than a first go at Railroad Tycoon at my folks place.

I didn't mind the venue, in fact it was very handy for me, I may stay over next year so I can get involved in some other games.
