A good while ago I did a geeklist Best Ever Graphic Novels which produced some excellent feedback from BGGeeks and lead to me reading a load of great graphic novels.

Now using the poll functionality I thought I would revisit the subject and see how it turned out. The list of books/comics/series in the poll is roughly in the order that they were in my geeklist but I have added a lot of other items that were suggested by others or have come to my attention since. I have certainly missed many fine titles. Please feel free to add additional polls to this thread with titles you think I have missed. Or if you can't work out how to do a poll then just put your suggestion and someone (maybe me) will add it in additional polls in this thread.

I thought so too at first, but then I realized it would skew the percentages. You can get the general idea just by looking at the number of responses.

I think Cerebus is too large to have just one entry. There are some volumes that I think are fantastic, and others I hate.

Edit: But there are too many for you to list them all, so I guess we're stuck with just one entry.

Holy wah! This is an expensive place to put random crap! And further, please DO NOT FIX GeekQuestions tipping** OR thumb counts. Both are a critical part of its charm (such as it is). ** Except for Purplewurple who totally deserves it!

The Classic Arkham Asylum is the one by Grant Morrison.

I think Dan Slott came later, no?

I'm amazed at how many of those I've read.

Blankets and Velvet Glove Cast In Iron are my all time favorites though. (I even bought the soundtrack to Velvet Glove.)

An excellent example of participant-fatigue. Granted, the earlier entries may also be more popular, but I will wager that a relatively low proportion of people make it to the bottom of the list, contributing to the lower totals in the bottom two-thirds.

Utter bullshit. Watchmen and Sandman are two of the greatest works of fiction of the 20th century, bar none.

Okay Cap ... "two of the greatest works of fiction of the 20th Century" ... that's a little much.

Not at all, man! I say it completely without hyperbole.

Quote:
As for your claim that they stand among the greatest of the 20th Century ...

I think it's time for you take a jaunt down to your local library.

This is what comes from thinking you know the people you talk to on the internet. I'm a voracious reader. Who else are people going to put on a list of greatest 20th century authors? Hemmingway? Steinbeck? Faulkner? Moore stands up to those guys, no problem. And Gaiman's a little sketchier, but Sandman is an utter masterpiece. In fact, taken as a whole, I'd call that *the* greatest work of fiction of the 20th century.

I firmly believe that anyone who refuses to give these writers the respect they deserve is just beholden to the status quo. Have you read Watchmen and Sandman, GAWD?

Thanks for the comment. Wow, BGG is so positive at the moment.

How about:

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote. This could be a really useful resource to those of us who love comic books and want to read some great ones that we might not otherwise have heard of.

I apologize if it came off as negative - it was mainly intended as an observation, and in fact has inspired me to put some of my survey-writing training to use by drafting some suggestions. In thinking about this particular survey I'm really not sure how you would work around it.

The list is definitely useful in introducing titles that I had never heard about before. But the more exhaustive the list the more limited the data.I do appreciate the efforts that you and all of the responders have put in.
