I only have a few plays under my belt, but I can already see that scorepad isn't gonna last long. The replacements on here are fine, but what I think would be really slick would be an Agricola scoring app for iPhone.
I can't imagine this being very hard to program. I imagine someone who knows what they're doing (which isn't me) could knock it out in an afternoon.
So what about it iPhone/iPod Touch users? Who's interested? Maybe if there's enough demand, we can find a developer sympathetic to our cause.

Actually not a bad idea.
Too bad I just started learning the iPhone framework. Would take me a bit of time to learn enough to make this, time I could spend watching Battlestar Galactica (Yes... I've only just begun to watch it)

Forwarded the suggestion to a buddy of mine with the development kit. No idea on whether or not he'll bite on the idea though.

Great idea! We are hoping to get into some iPhone development at work soon, but I can't promise anything for a bit. It would be a fun project to help learn cocoa and the sdk.

I'd be a grateful end-user, as would three of my playing partners who all have iPhones as well.

I guess an application would be cool; but a website optimized for the iPhone would probably be easier and really just as good.

For iPhone users yes, but not for iPod Touch (needs WiFi).

Woah, is this an Apple-sponsored thread?
How about a Java ME application that *every* phone can use? I could probably whip one out when I got some free time...

+1 for the idea
Brilliant!!
While you're at it, you could make it applicable for other types or even customizable eg for Puerto (#2) Rico, Race for the galaxy, year of the dragon etc etc
Easy once you have the basic structure I presume
Board games + Iphone = Ultimate Geek
Definitely worth geek gold etc etc
?even ....... cash?!!!

Hm, I had once this idea for the WindowsMobile platform (calling the app "AgriCulator"). It is half made but I thought that no one would really use it. is there really interest in such an app?
My main interest was to save all the scores in a little app-build-in database, so that players can easily look after "Who has made the most points per his/her games?" to "Who had the most swines per game?" and a overall hiscorelist..
Greetings, Carsten

I have a scoring app that I wrote for the iPhone (pending apple approval for release), that we use to score our games. I'm thinking of making one specifically for the Agricola... I'm debating if I should make it look really sweet, and charge $2, or make it really fast and ugly, and release it for free.
Votes? Ugly or Free?
I'm thinking that I should not use artwork from the game to avoid copyright issues, which means time for me.
If someone want to provide the artwork, I'd be more willing to do it for free
BTW, here is a link to my existing app, it is not on the store yet.... there is a lag to get apps up: http://www.ryancafe.com/iphone/score/

Pretty neat app, Ryan!
Does your app allow people to change the color of the players to match what game they are playing? Are you planning on charging for it? It's pretty basic (though looks very nice and is simple), so I'm not sure how much people would be willing to pay for it.
I would love to have one specifically for Agricola since that scoring is a bit more confusing. I don't think I would pay anything for it though as a friend said he would write one for free if one doesn't become available soon.
Keep up the great work and good luck with your apps!

I would prefer free, but $2 is not to steep a price to pay...
So basically, whichever works best for you .
Although, you may be able to ask Lookout Games about the artwork, you never know, they may say yes...

Thanks.
Right now the colors are set, but I am working on making it so you can take a picture and use that as a token. I figure you can use a picture of your friend or of a game piece.
Right now I am listing the app for $1. Mainly because I need to pay for the Mac that I bought to be able to write apps. In order to make iPhone apps you need a Mac, and a $100 dev license. I bought a Mac Mini, so I'm out $800 total... the "deal" I made with my wife was that I would charge for some apps to cover that cost
I've started on the Agricola app, so far, I'm thinking free Right now it looks pretty crappy...
Here are some quick screen shots:
here you see current scores. if you touch a score, it takes you to the next screen where you update.
as you can see all of the ways to score don't fit, so I'll have to put into a scroll view, since im doing that, i think ill make them all taller.. right now i am missing all of the bonus points
thoughts on how this might work, and or features are welcome...

Ryan,
I think both this and your generic scoring app (which, I'm sure, will be much more marketable) look and sound great. Pretty is good, but functional is just fine.
In whatever form you release them, I will float you more than $2 via PayPal. It will be very handy to never have to deal with pen & paper not just for Agricola, but also random card games where finding a scorepad is always a nuisance.

Dunno about every phone - certainly it would exclude the iPhone as it does not support Java.

This is awesome!! I never would have thought an app would be made for board games in general much less agricola. I like the idea of keeping it minimal and easy to use. With all the other "crap" on the iTunes app store I am sure these would be approved. I have heard it can take a while to get through.

I can use app store as well as cydia on my phone. I'd rather it be available on the app store and give this man some $$ for his effort.
App store = everyone has Cydia = some people have

Yes yes yes! I will gladly pay a few bucks for these apps! I can't find Score in the AppStore yet though.
I also agree that you need to be able to set the color for Score. Pictures won't help iPod Touch users. Perhaps just double-tapping on the color to bring up color options. Great work so far! =-)

So is this on Itunes yet? If so what should I search under? Thanks
