Just in time for Halloween — the nonstoptabletop.com review of "It's Alive" the monster-building game.

At A Glance: A light, fun "filler" set-collection / auction game with a cartoon-ish horror theme.

Reviewer's score on the BoardGameGeek.com 1-10 scale: 7.5

Publisher: Reiver Games
Number of Players: 2-5
Play Time: Aprox. 15-30 Minutes

Editor's Note:

It's Alive designer Yehuda Berlinger sent me a note upon seeing this review to clarify a rule or two mentioned in my video. He kindly agreed to let me post his note below to make my review more complete. I very much appreciate these observations and look forward to putting this advice into play on the game table.

Quote:
Josh, Thanks for reviewing It's Alive. From the review, however, I'm concerned that you played a few of the rules incorrectly. Of course, if you're happy playing the game as is, don't let me stop you!

One problem was that when you source a part from a graveyard, you don't get it, it simply goes to the middle of the table. From there you can buy, sell, or auction it as usual. So it costs effectively double to source cards from graveyards - once to bring it to the center, and once to buy it.

The second is that when you get hit with a villager you get to go again (and you can't be hit with two on the same turn).

Last, I didn't get if you were playing the basic game, where the fist player to complete the body wins, or the advanced game, where you have to win by the most valuable body. Two interesting ways to play.

Thanks again for the review,

Thanks to all for the kind words. I'm enjoying putting together these reviews and the lighter time-lapse videos of sessions. I certainly intend to keep them coming. If you have any requests for different kinds of multimedia content showcasing our hobby, let me know.
