I just want to know what is your favourite equipment and why? Equipment includes armor/clothes and weapons.
My favourite 'armor' currently is the 'Roving Trader Outfit' just because it's light and since I'm a gatherer it also fits my profession.
My weapon of choice for range combat is the 'Lincoln's Repeater': It's very accurate and provides high impact. I know, there are better weapons, but I also like the cool sound when you shoot it.
My favourite CC weapon is the 'Deathclaw Gauntlet'. The first choice for CC. There's nothing comparable: Ingnores armor and it has a high critical damage.
And as my favourite equipment - Ghoul Mask because fighting ghouls is boooooring - Shishkebab OR the flaming and extra cool sword of the future - Experimental MIRV, the most unnecessary weapon of mass destruction ever created
Honorable mentions: - Lucky Shades, the best sunglasses in the Capital Wasteland - Dart Gun (no explanations needed, simply try it on a deathclaw)
Lincoln Repeater is the best weapon out there, 'cuz you can use all those copious hunting rifles to repair it all the time. When I start a new game now, I start collecting 44 ammo at the beginning...
Ranger armor is pretty nice too. Since I tend to play very stealthy characters, it's nice to use this stuff 'til you have a really really high stealth that the armor doesn't matter as much...
The plasma rifle you get from the android is quite nice late in the game when everyone's carryin' around plasma rifles. Kewl equipment's only as kewl as your ability to keep in tip-top shape, IMHO.
Bottlecap mines are rockin'! I love being able to bring down a deathclaw with a single headshot and have him run at me over a bottlecap mine field...
Interesting you like the dart gun. I've never seen much need for it. I'll hafta try it on a deathclaw as you recommend. You're totally right about the Experimental MIRV. First time I fired that off I was very grumpy all that ammo disappeared!
Where you find the lucky shades? I don't know that one. Altho I do tend to use the shady hat, just so I look kewl with my non-lucky shades during VATS.
I do wish there was some really good heavy armor...
I used the Xuanglong Assault Rifle before the Repeater, but the Repeater is better for sniping purposes.
Ok, there's also the Backwater Rifle from Point Lookout. This weapon uses the more common 10mm ammo. But there's a bug on the xbox where you sometimes hit the target but the weapon deals no damage. That sucks! The other drawback (among others) is the higher spread and the repair aspect. You need Lever-Action Rifles to repair it.
The Plasma Rifle from the android is very durable (2x Lincoln's Repeater) and is one of the strongest weapons in the game. But the ammo is very expensive and the Energy Weapons aren't my cup of tea. I love the 'standard' weapons.
In the DLC The Pit you have access to the Ammo Press where you can make ammunition from other conventional ammo. Very useful when you need ammo for the Repeater.
I must try out that mines, just for fun...
I've never payed attention to the Dart Gun also. Must try it out against the stronger enemies... The big guns, like Experimental MIRV, never interested me. Btw: Somewhere I've read that the bell that sounds when shooting the Fat Man is the lunchroom bell at the Bethesda offices.
One of the best armor is the Hellfire Armor (Broken Steel). It has the advantage over the T-51b Armor that it can be easily repaired. It was my favourite armor, but it slowed down my character and is far to heavy.
Lucky Shades are in an unmarked building somewhere south of Tenpenny Tower, on the very border of the world map. A mannequin is wearing them and, if I recall correctly, there was also a scavenger wandering inside the old abandoned store.
Also, my house is decorated with random stuff I found while wandering around, like the Lincoln's action figure, twenty something garden gnomes and a giant teddy bear.
Oh yeah, I also use the Xuanglong Assault Rifle. Best assault rifle out there, and gettin' it is a great little puzzle...
It's funny, because I was worried no one would ever find or bother to follow the breadcrumbs from that puzzle when I put it in the museum and yet it turned out to be one of the first people stumble across.

It is funny that you mention this because I use the Xuanglong Assault Rifle almost exclusively and I would not be able to tell you for the life of me how I even got this.
Seems like I just remember picking it off of some random deady guy in one of the diner buildings though...
The Xuanglong doesn't appear unless you've solved the puzzle to get it, so you must have solved it prior and not realized it... Altho the best weapon (for most of the game) is still the Lincoln Repeater. Regardless of all the other considerations, the fact that it's so easy to repair for so much of the game makes it invaluable.

Is it the prime number thing in the museum and it tells you to go check out blah blah blah?
I'm a Chinese Stealth Armor and Deathclaw Gauntlet kind of guy.
My number one hope for New Vegas is actually that VATS will allow targeting of specific body parts with melee weapons, as that was my only real annoyance with that system in 3.
I have yet to try a melee character but plan on doing so soon. How important is to jack up your strength and endurance for a melee guy?
My character, Foxee "Babe" Lincoln, prefers surprise attacks, preferably at as long a range as possible.* She used to use Recon Armor and Poplar's Hood and the Reservists Rifle until she got Sneak high enough. Now she uses Ranger Armor, Ledoux's Hockey Mask for +25 AP and Lincoln's Repeater. I keep the Victory Rifle and a Missile Launcher handy. I always keep a Dart Gun handy for Deathclaws and often alternate carrying Sidney's Ultra SMG and the Blackhawk .44 Magnum depending on how much 10mm versus .44 Magnum ammo I have in stock. She never melees.
*It's probably no surprise that I play as a Hunter in Borderlands either.

Ledoux's Hockey Mask brings +25 APs? That's cool. I don't like the Sniper Rifles, it's a pain to hit something outside VATS with them, especially at great ranges (you have to factor in the recoil). In addition they wear off very fast.

Yeah, they do wear quickly and there aren't as many to be found for spare parts but long range VATS sniping suits my style. If I don't kill with the first or second shot I switch weapons. At medium range I like the Lincoln Repeater but sometimes nothing but close up full automatic fire will do, thus the Ultra SMG.

I must admit that I haven't used Sniper Rifles in VATS that often, but I'll give it a try against various enemies. Lincolns Repeater is also my first choice and for short ranges I also use the Ultra SMG. Sometimes I use the Perforator, but the Repeater has more punch.
