Started playing yesterday. I didn't think I'd enjoy this game, but it's actually quite fun!
Feel free to look me up. My summoner's name is Maevre and I'm on the European server.

Which European server? There are two now...

Glad you're enjoying the game. I think Dominion is really great for getting new people into the game since it is really fast and action packed.

I prefer Summoner's Rift, since I like the slow build up of power and the back and forth of lane control. Really hope they do come out with Magma Chamber or some other map that has longer lanes and promotes a stronger back and forth in lanes.

Western European

I've only played Summoner's Rift so far. I enjoy the slow pace too. But the game could use more maps. I can't believe they have 70-something champions and only 2 maps.

They (and others) liken it to sports: there is really only one "map" for football (either American football or Soccer), but there are many players with different positions on the team.

Personally, I hope they give Twisted Treelines (3v3) the special global buff that Crystal Scar (Dominion) has to better balance the Champions, and/or make it 4v4 for closer balance to the typical 5v5.

I'm surprised they haven't released more maps in Custom games, like the Tutorial 1v1 map would be fun to play in Custom.

I guess it makes sense if you look at it that way. But just think how much more fun soccer would be if it had different maps! (With lava pits and spinning fans and conveyor belts! - or maybe I've just been playing too much roborally).

I still hang out at the channel "PlayWithRiot" if you want to chat or anything. I'm at like 295 friends or so (out of 300) so I tend not to add anyone. Wish they let you sort by "last log on" so I could clear out my friend list easily.

My summoner name is Stexe though, so if you see me in the chat room just say "Hi from BGG" or whatever.

If anyone want to look for me, Yohan Leafheart is my summoner name. With the redesign I've been managing mostly 1 or 2 games every other day. Mostly on draft unranked

I fell in love with the MOBA genre after playing DotA with friends in college. Naturally, when I started playing LoL it was just like the good old days.

Though, I must admit that after playing my heart out for a few months I can't stand playing anymore. With nearly every game is pinned by jerks or trolls, it's just not worth it. The garbage that spews out of every 14 year old hot-shit is extremely off-putting, even when it's not directed at me personally. I just don't get it.

If anyone tried running your mouth like that while playing a board game, someone is going to reach over the table and knock you out!

That being said. I tragically miss the good old days enjoying the game for what it was, but you'll likely not seen me online anytime soon.

I have found the Co-op v ai to be entertaining enough, and people really don't take things too seriously in there. It really isn't much of a team game experience in that mode though; doesn't scratch the same MOBA itch.

I agree, the "garbage spew" is pretty awful, which is part of the reason I am trying to coordinate and organize bgg/vgg user group play.

I figure boardgamers aren't about to engage in the same level of rage and spew, so we could all play in "custom" 5v5 or 3v3s and enjoy some of that good old fashioned DotA fun, without the jerk/troll factor. If we had an idea of all the players' skill levels, we could make a pretty balanced match out of it. There would also be opportunities to organize ARAM or other silly variants if we could get 10 users to agree to meetup and play.

Sometimes I wonder what these kids are like in real life, but that kinda scares me.

If you decide to arrange such a thing, I would try to make time to give it a go. By the way, we don't "need" 10 players, it's still fun even 3v3. I'm a respectable level 22 19 and my wife is level 16 14, her name is Samasaur.

I have played more Co-op vs the AI than PvP, but it became a bit predictable, and still there were kids in there losing their minds over who's got mid or some other player "feeding". It didn't matter if the team was winning or not. I've seen other players get berated for not picking the right champ that fits the team, having a few accidental deaths while trying a new champ, or just not slaughtering enough AI butt. I agree that there are good ways and bad ways to play, but this way was the least fun.

(Edit: I was initially just guessing at my level. I couldn't remember)

You can always just ignore/mute them. You can still see their pings and they can still see what you say (like calling mia's and jungle timers and stuff). You can even chalk it up to a bug, say at the start of the game that you can't see chat, so that they need to communicate through pings.

You'll still run into the occasional feeder or troll, but the higher you get in the game the less you'll encounter them. They don't want to risk losing a level 30 account to the Tribunal.

Yes, the foul language really hurts the experience for me too. Makes the idea of our own play group quite appealing. I would think that LoL would create an adult-only channel or something to appease us level-headed folks. The report system seems to have backfired, as most often I hear some jerk pleading for everyone to report the noob for just trying to learn the game.

Yes!

I have also wished for this, however, I couldn't think of any feasible way to implement it. Since it is Free-To-Play, there's no way to limit toxic player behavior. As I understand it, Riot can't really be sure if someone is making a new account or just an additional account. If they could isolate the toxic players(trolls, jerks, etc...), then they could exile them to an "island" to play with only other such players, even if they "smurf."

This is the real problem with the report system (tribunal) that is currently in place. It removes toxic players from experianced play, so they make new accounts and fill the 'lower levels' with trolls, smurfs, and jerks, making any legitimately new player seriously turned off to the whole thing.

Pendragon has addressed this issue and says they are working on ways to fix it. It can be problematic, but if you play Co-Op games until you're level 15ish to 20ish then it shouldn't be that bad.

You can always go into a chat room and find people yourself -- just make a group of people you will always play with. My friend list is almost always full because I would add anyone who was a good player and friendly. Not that hard to weed out the rotten apples from the bunch.

I played a few normals last night, actually didn't run into any rotten apples at all. People were supportive and polite, actually felt kinda weird...

yeah..it's so hit and miss. I think folks are more intense/less forgiving on ranked matches than non-ranked.

That last game we were on a roll. Bummer they surrendered so early. I was looking forward to totally dominating!
