...finding more Bobby Pins! I didn't realize when I got the game and started my character how important Lock Picking would be and in particular how important Bobby Pins would become. When I started my travels I squandered BPs on ammo cans. Now I'm a level 17 and many quests seem to involve getting through very hard locked doors. I realized the error of my ways awhile back and got my Lock Picking Skill up to 100 but I have one freakin' Bobby Pin in inventory. I'm scouring the countryside and combing the vendors for BPs.
If you've never played the game before, remember to HOARD BOBBY PINS!

F5 and F8, quick save and load. When you get to a lock to pick with only one pin... save! If you break the pin then just load the quick save and try again. This method will take a while but it works until you can find more pins.
This may help.

Another way to save pins; if you guess the wrong spot on a lock several times, the pin will break (assuming you backed off the instant you realized the spot was wrong). If you cancel lockpicking and then try to pick it again, your bobby pin will be at "full health", meaning you can try twice, cancel and then try two more times, cancel and then try two more times, until you get it right, all with just one pin.

I play on an XBox 360, so the save process isn't quite as quick as on a PC but it looks like I'll have to start pre-saving even though it feels like a cheat. In any case, I've raised my inventory of BPs to 4 tonight.

I'm doing the one try and out to preserve BPs then try again. That's working out. As a side bar, when I created the character I'm playing now I decided to do one as physically opposite of me as possible. My character is an African-American Female. I was disappointed I couldn't give her an Afro hair style.

Looting every first aid kit you come across is a sure way to acquire a lot of bobby pins (and stimpacks). You can have a look there for other possible sources: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bobby_Pin (I checked and there are no spoilers on the page).

This my my very first video RPG experience. I'm intentionally avoiding any game sites and fan sites. In fact, my pre-owned copy didn't even come with a manual, so I had to figure out how to do some things on my own. Almost as if I had been actually and suddenly thrust into an unfamiliar environment. I really appreciate your tips. However, I should have thought of the in and out lock pick ploy myself.
