I'm looking forward to the excuses for the world not ending on 21st May. As there have been thousands of such predictions in the past I feel confident I can predict some of the following:
1. It was a calculation error, it's actually in 10 years time.
2. God is merciful and decided to let us off this time (they seem to ignore the fact that god told them they will never know the date)
3. It happened just that we missed it
4. It happened and it was (insert recent disaster here)
Any more ideas?

I wonder if the Samoans know they will Rapture one day earlier now they have moved their day? Someone better tell them.

What's all this about? I haven't heard anything about this.
Then again, I don't read the National Enquirer either.

It's a very small number but it precedes the Maori one. Here's some details http://www.ebiblefellowship.com/may21/
Some families have sold up and spent everything. I feel sorry for their kids. For some reason it is receiving more attention than most.

A secular version of this, there were rumors about a big earthquake to hit Rome today. They were based on old writings of Raffaele Bendandi a dead astronomer, whose work involved predicting earthquakes based on the position of the planets and the earth and the sun.

April 1, 33 A.D. is the only date that meets all the requirements of the Bible, such as being a Friday that falls on the correct date for the Passover, which was the date Christ was to be crucified.
Wait, Jesus was crucified 33 years... After Death???

Yes, you get all the Confucion nonsense as well. For a more modern version you get the numerous cold fusion claims, some from apparently respected scientists who seem to have gone a bit strange.

I don't see why people are all worked up about this. The only place it's getting coverage is the damn Colbert Report. The number of people who believe in this is probably three figures, and yet you guys are using it to make fun of all Christians.

It cannot be that low. This organization makes 7 M a year in revenue and has 86 M is assets.
There is a billboard on a major highway not far from me and I know that billboard is not cheap.

All one needs to do is do a google search for may 21 and they will find all sorts of news outlets reporting this. And the thing is its a shameless publicity stunt for their charity.
These people should be openly mocked for this and the mockery should come from other Christian organizations to lend authority.

According to the NPR story, some of these people don't have a post-May 21 excuse. One guy they interviewed stopped working and has spent all their savings.
There are actually big billboards with their ads on the freeways down here in San Diego. I never knew what they were talking about till today.

Actually, as I said in the Op, their message is not Christian at all. God clearly stated the Rapture date will never be known (although the return of Christ was promised within a generation of his death but I'll let that drop)
After the 21st May these people will need a lot of help. I hope they get it. As was said earlier, where are the Christian groups trying to help them now? Many groups must be alert to their presence if I am in the UK, thousands of miles away.
This all came from a very popular radio show, Familyradio, we do not know for sure how many will be affected by this. I hope your right and it's in its low hundreds, with any luck tens.

The number who believe this is definitely more than three figures.
I am curious at what time on 5/21 this will happen. Just like those who predicted the world would end at midnight during Y2K. Will that be midnight Eastern time? Or maybe Midnight GMT?
There is no time during the day when it will be 5/21 everywhere on earth. There are 24 time zones. When it turns 12:00am 5/21 on the last time zone (just west of Alaska) it will be turning 12:00am 5/22 in Eastern Russia. The rapture (if it were to happen) will be instantaneous. So at what time will it happen?
Also, what about leap year? Did they have leap years back when Noah was around? Obviously they could tell the difference between summer and winter, so they could count the years accurately, but they certainly did not know there were 365.25 days in a year. I don't know when this started, but it was probably not in place in 33AD when they say the crucifixion happened. So even if they have the years right (doubtful) there is no way they can pinpoint the exact day.
As for the years, they say Christ was born in 7 BC (I always thought it was 3 BC), and that he was crucified in 33AD. Being that there is no year zero, that means Christ died at age 39. His ministry lasted 3 years, meaning it started when he was 36. Luke 3:23 says he started his ministry when he was 30. Six times nine equals 42. Something certainly got screwed up somewhere.
Frankly, as a Christian, I hope they are right. It's pretty stressful at work right now, and Heaven would be a welcome reprieve. But I don't think they are.

It makes you wonder if he built in some errors to hold as an excuse later. Even my heathen brain knows those dates are wrong according to most scholars.
There is also the matter of where will the risen bodies come from? Will limbs be replaced and what happens with burned corpses? What happens to those atoms which could now belong to someone else Raptured? Are they going to do some body sharing deal? There is also the point that according to them God created us without us asking and then condemns most of us to hell even if we have lead good lives.
Anyway, this reminds me I must get a copy of Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game
This is not a Christian bashing post either. Even most of the Rapture crowd say they are wrong. There has been many end of the world predictions and some seem to take on a life of their own. The Mayan calendar thing is not Religious as far as I can tell. I just find it fascinating how people can believe this sort of stuff with such sincerity and certainty.

The article I linked to had a quote that said it would start around 6 pm in the Pacific Rim, not sure exactly where.

The anti-christ analogies might have some validity... Her b-day is the 22nd, my excuse NOT to be rapured. Based on her grades she wont be going either.

Not necessarily. If you lead a perfect life of charity and all that you may still not get a free ticket, in fact you probably wont due to not doing it in humility. However no matter how evil you are as long as you repent even at the last minute your golden. So your average nice person is not going yet Hitler is in for a good chance. It's such twisted logic I may not have explained it properly, I find it hard to remember as it does not follow any normal thought process.
I have a good chance as I think the whole thing is total bollocks, so by their logic I will score more 'heaven points' for realising my abject failure at accepting God until the end, when I have to throw myself at his mercy, grovel and do some serious sucking up to his massive ego for a minute or two. Easy. I still vote for Hell as being a nicer place though so I don't think I'll bother.
