Of course I followed this up last night with a couple of horrible games.

Nothing mastered, but enough good/bad games to keep interest for now.

Champs I like to play:

AD carry: Ashe, Caitlyn, Sivir, Riven, Kog'maw (esp. Cait VS Sivir, Sivir can dominate that lane)

Support: Soraka, Karma (people who say Karma's UP don't have a clue what their doing, she's much harder to get what you need out of her, but she's a beast)

Bruisers: Shyvana (really fun though her E is completely retarded and needs a re-work), Irelia, Cho'gath

Tanks: Cho'Gath, Leona, Singed, Rammus, Orianna (Leona is absolutely amazing at tanking if the opponents don't have the common sense to spread out, also, Orianna can tottaly tank it)

Junglers: (not that I have too much experience jungling) Trundle, Warwick, Irelia (I love Shyvana, but playing her as a jungler seems fricking pointless with no CC)

Casters: Annie, Cho'gath (though it breaks my heart to go AP over health on him) Karthus (moar rage) Lux, Morgana, Orianna

And I'd be tottaly up for a tournament. Obviously I'm over on EU-W as opposed to the US servers but if you can get tournament server access I'm game.

As a point, what roles do you guys feel is easiest/hardest to play?

In order of easiest to hardest for me:

Caster
AD carry
Bruisers
Tanks
Supports
Jungling

As for which I'm best at, probably AD carries and Supports (Bottom laner FTW).

I don't think any role is inherently harder to play than the others, but for me personally:

Ranged AD
Very specific tanky DPS (Rumble and a few others)
Junglers
Support
Other melee dps (Played a decent amount of Jax but never got great with him; so-so with Irelia, etc.)
Mages (The only role I still consider myself terrible with despite my 1k+ games)

Having played Shyvana quite a bit I have to say something:

She's awesome, fun to play, well worth the money, but has a really irritating draw back

Her E:

It just feels like rubbish work for several reasons:

1) I get full armour de-buff at level 1 and the damage is not only AP based but scales pretty badly too.

2) it's a skill shot with no real incentive to hit it at range most of the time, as it's damage is weak and the armor de-buff is worthless unless your in mellee range

3) the attack speed benifit of it SOUNDS good, but due to rubbish damage, again just feels pointless (actually tested it, playing AP/hybird in a bot game and in order to get 50 damage on that proc I needed to give up about 100 AD at an estimate PLUS all the bonus effects of items from that, like frozen mallet)

It just feels kinda pointless, it's a tiny 'edge' skill for close one v ones and that's it, they need to change it in some way, maybe give a slow (I know no CC is a design point but still). Buff it's AP ratio to make a more hybrid build work, or buff the attack speed proc to actually be worth while damage as opposed to peanuts.

Well, it doesn't cost any resource to use, so it is just bonus damage basically. It is mainly just used to do a little bit of bonus damage and get her a ranged poke.

It is good in Summoners Rift to last hit when you're against a ranged opponent and it is good in Dominion to stop cappers.

They made it AP because they wanted her to get some benefit from AP items (her W was AP based too, but they changed it to AD). Eh... I think it is fine. Not every skill has to be a viable choice in comparison to every other skill -- look at Kassadin. Who actually puts points in his W?

Eh, I just don't think it's fun, like I said, it's just so very marginal that it's worthless. Burn out being AP based plus buffing the E's effect could have a MUCH more interesting champ in terms of how to build and play her to be honest.

You know what I love about this game? It often feels actually epic. It's one of the rare multi-player online rts style games I've played where I feel like there's a massive tug-of-war going on, and where the losing side can come back from behind and steal a win. In spite of its assymetry, it's somehow balanced. Reminds me of Chaos In the Old World.

It's a reasonable damage nuke that costs no mana and gives and otherwise almost completely melee champion a way to poke and past hit at range. I haven't played her yet, but it definitely looks plenty useful to me even if it is less exciting than one might want

That's pretty accurate, yeah. With the group of friends I play with most of the time, we have a rather large number of comebacks. It's not that rare for one or two people to have a terrible laning phase that puts us behind for the first half of the game, but then our superior strategy, coordination, etc. will lead us to a late-game victory.

This is why we just laugh at people that try to give up because the team is behind by 5 kills or something. If I gave up that easily I would've lost at least 20 games I ended up winning. Even at the professional tournament level I once saw a team literally behind by over 10,000 gold manage to catch up and win the game!

To be fair I still can't say the game fits the term "epic" as well as Total Annihilation, but LoL is still pretty epic =) I think that's definitely part of why Dominion started to feel pretty bland after a while - games just didn't feel as epic, even if we came back from a losing position or such.

It's damage is comparably less than every other ability at the same level (well, arguably it COULD out do the Q but not only does the Q have a shorter cooldown but the cooldown can be reduced via auto attacks)

The range is blegh because the armour reduction and damage proc mean if you use it out of mellee range it's basically pointless and it's cooldowns pretty big as well.

Basically, the only use is as a damage edge, I actually don't give half a flying nun when I see it doing damage to me in lane because I know if it's doing good damage, she's leveled it first, and as a result her damage output will be peanuts compared to any other skill build.

I just think it's a bad skill because it may as well do NOTHING in terms of how I feel the urge to use it AS shyvana or react to it against her.

Ya, I have been neglecting these forums. I should post more... especially since all the changes (new Masteries, and like 10 new Champions).

My Summoner name is "Stexe" so just add me and we can chat. Or you can go to the chat room "PlayWithRiot" and I'm always there if I'm online. Been helping some of my friends who are new at the game (they are levels 12 and 15 or so). Anyway, let me know and we can arrange something.

Is there a guild or chat group or centralized anything for bgg/vgg folks that play this? I noticed that there are about 80 owners of the LoL microbadge, would it be appropriate to try to organize/invite those folks to some sort of play group? Did any tournaments, or organized play ever get organized?

I'm looking to get back into Normal or start Ranked Summoners Rift, but I was hoping to have some people to queue with.

Anybody looking for an extra?

-lvl 30, a couple of rune pages, ~ 30 champs unlocked
-Not that great at jungle or support, but I'll play any role
-favorite champs:
+Brand
+Morgana
+Olaf
+Warwick
+Volibear

I'll be a bit rusty with strategies, but I have the mechanics down.

Not really sure if anyone has organized anything. I haven't seen anything myself, but I'm always up to teach people and/or play some games. Maybe we should start a chat room or something... I propose "BGG" as the chat room name.

I'll add you laugh, My summoner name is "Code Cleric."

I usually only play on Weds and Thurs evenings (Central Time zone) since my wife is busy with night class.

I haven't really looked at the chat room features at all yet. I'll do it next time I'm on. If possible, I'll make a BGG room and post back here about it.

I could PM all the badge owners too, to try to drum up interest, but I'm not sure if that is an acceptable thing to do on BGG (not exactly new to BGG, but just getting more active.)

Never used the LoL chat rooms. Is the chat rooms persistent when no one is on? I'd love to play with some more BGG/VGG folks. I'm usually on around 9-10ish EST on weeknights/ends depending what else is going on. Can usually squeeze in 1-2 games to play.

Lvl 30.

Well, the chat room is created the first time someone joins it. So it isn't persistent in the sense that you can post a message there and people will get it the next time they visit. I saw someone at chat room "BGG" earlier today. Been trying to get Aldie to come back and play some LoL, but he is pretty busy with the whole BGG 2.0 thing.

Count me in for whatever gets organized.

I'm still pretty new but can't you form "teams" of some sort for ranked play? Maybe we could have a BGG one...

Okay, I can't make it tonight but, I think I will be around for a few hours tomorrown night (thurs).

Compiling a list of xGG members interested in queueing together. There are several options for what we can do with a group of people playing this.

Quote:

xGG user || LoLname:
chris4games || Code Cleric
stexe || stexe
culturejam || dancemoveburglar
valien || ???
SuperChutney || Superchutney
Aldie || ???

*If you don't feel comfortable having your LoL name identified let me know and I'll edit this post.
**If you don't feel comfortable having your LoL name identified, there's always PMing. I can keep an offline list too if that works better.

-If we get 8 or more people, we can do a "custom" 4v4 or 5v5, which would be more enjoyable than dealing with randomed foul-mouthed opponents (which is sadly far too often.) The custom mode would also allow for more even matchups once we figure out people's skill levels.
***I don't mind if folks want to do a little trash talking or swearing. By foul-mouthed, I mean when people say things like "get cancer and die" or "u suck, uninstall nao." That kind of behavior is childish, malicious and fairly negative. It's just not something I want to be part of when I'm playing a game, for fun.

-With 5 lvl 30s, we can do a ranked team. That sounds pretty serious though, I don't know how casual/serious folks take this game.

-With 5 or less: premade normal/ranked queueing.

My game handle is ChumpmonkeyV. Game for serious and casual. I do some ranked but it's such a different beast I haven't done too hot lately. I do enjoy good teamplay even if we lose.
