I just finished another self play and ended with a score of 159-157-156 (Orange-Green-Blue). As much as you try to avoid it, of course it helps to unconsciously know what the other guys are up to. And the two low scoring players did try pretty hard to hold back the leader in the last era (at the start of the last era Green was well in the lead, but he was also short on labor).
But that seems like a pretty high score. Is this typical at all?
I made a couple (rules) mistakes in my previous plays, but I think I had everything right this third time around....any thoughts?

Seems about right. Our last game ended in a three-way tie at 150-something.

When I say "159" I should clarify that it means "178" since the score track flips at 120, but the score "on the board" looked like "159".
I presume you meant "170's" or did you actually mean "150's"
I should also add that Green started out connecting to as many cities as possible, and in the last round Orange and Blue spent their cards giving each other bonuses and road cards so they could catch up on their connections. Also, if I played with Pizarro variant and it happened in any turn but the last, Orange would not have won (it did a desperate push out to the southern rich cities and bagged both of them and temples, in retrospect, Green should have chased Orange down and stolen one of the temples).

Typical full game scores will go around the track 1 1/2 times. The 120 space scoring track was a combination of space size and the size of the board. In a perfect, thematic world, the scoring track would have been 260 spaces, not because the scores would be that high, but it would be a Katun calendrical cycle (13 days times 20).

Okay, I clearly need some sleep. The calendrical cycle relates to the Maya games, not this Inca themed one.
