Maybe I misunderstand this comment, but you can click the 'Questions' button and change your vote.

My "best" score was nearly 6000 but I played much better games where I had much lower scores than that.

All my successful games have been in the 4000's, with the top one so far being in the 4800's.
I agree w/ Eric that the score formula isn't that good. You actually get rewarded for doing a worse job (taking longer so you can fight more monsters, etc...) and it doesn't account for the condition your characters are in or what gear they have at the end of the game either. I'd think having less damage and more leftover gear should indicate better performance.
Basically, don't read too much into the score.

I hit over 5000 with Diamond Joe, Ashcan Pete, Mandy Thompson, and Scientist Kate. Only got four doom tokens, didn't lose anybody.

New High 4990. Just missed 5000. Unfortunately, my last game was the worse I've ever played. Nothing but bad luck that spiraled downward quickly. The Curator came out the first day and kept us trophyless while dice stealers kept cropping up.
1 Elder Sign, 5 Doom tokens, 4 Insane Investigators. 500 points. In the end it was just a grudge match vs. the curator and he won with a smile on his face.

Somehow I got 5890 once but it was before I knew to check the Breakdown section
 Lately I cannot get above 5K. (sigh)
I'm fairly certain it was with Darrell, Gloria, Carolyn and Vincent.

I managed to break 6000 achieving a score of 6340 with the following investigators.
Jenny Barnes, Dexter Drake, Bob Jenkins and Monterey Jack.

Other Worlds Opened 8
Elder Signs Earned 16 (finish game with R'lyeh)

Ancient Ones Sealed Away 1
Incapacitated Investigators 0
I try and play the game as a test of nerve seeing how far I can push my turns before Azathoth awakens, this has been my most successful try to date.
