THIS QUESTION CONTAINS SPOILERS
Okay, question for people who have played through this game. I'm playing through for the first time right now. I actually got the bad ending first, not realizing that you aren't actually supposed to kill Richter. I thought it seemed incomplete, but it never actually said it was a bad ending, so I figured I had just beaten the game. Then I went to watch a speed run, and realized I had made a terrible mistake.
So I went back and kept playing, and anyway now I'm in the anti-castle. I started making my way through and handled the first boss fight (Medusa, I think? I don't know, it's been a while, maybe I even killed a couple) with ease. But now everywhere I go I keep getting my ass handed to me.
First I made my way to Beezelbub. Jeez, that is just awesome, but he also is killing me before I am able to make any progress. So, okay, I head back a little ways and work my way to the three "fake" characters that I assume are from previous Castlevania games (I've never actually played any others). They also are just murdering me. Every other boss so far I was able to beat on my first or second try.
So I'm willing to just keep at it if that's what I'm supposed to do, but I was wondering... did I by chance miss anything? Am I going horribly out of order? If I did, someone please just tell me that yes I did, and I'll leave that area and hunt around some more. Otherwise I'll just keep at it.
By the way, this game is freaking awesome. It just keeps surprising me with something new and crazy. I can't believe I'd never played it until now.

The second half of SotN is much more difficult than the first half. That doesn't preclude the possibility that you've missed something, but I remember being shocked at the somewhat abrupt difficulty spike.
Any time you're having difficulty getting around the reverse castle remember that Alucard's morphing abilities (especially bat and mist) are completely broken. (I don't actually recall off the top of my head what sort of equipment/abilities/levels you should have when you clear the first half of the game.)

I realized shortly after posting that I should have mentioned my level and what equipment I'm using, but I use the same TV for my computer monitor and the PS3, so doing so would actually be a pain in the ass, so I didn't bother.
I am using the bat all the time. The upside-down castle has a ton of places that you just can't get to otherwise. I have the Power of Wolf relic as well, so I'm tearing through long hallways like a boss.
Glad to know there is in fact a difficulty spike. I'll keep at it for a bit...

Some notes:
- The clock rooms get especially nasty, but never unfairly so once you get a handle on it.
- Have you learned the Soul Steal spell yet? It's difficult to input, but is beyond hilarious in how powerful it is.
- On the subject of broken abilities, try the Alucard Shield & Shield Rod combo if you're ever in a bad spot. It allows you to beat any boss in seconds.
- Glad you loved Beezelbub. One of my favorite all time favorite bosses ever in any game. Another, Granfaloon, is also in this game.
- Those 3 bosses are a reunion of sorts from Castlevania III on the NES. There are 4 playable characters in that one: Trevor (the Belmont with the whip), Grant (the pirate dude who was crawling on the ceiling), Sypha (the white mage girl) and Alucard (yup). I thought that battle was a nice touch.

The central areas are probably the hardest, although the reverse catacombs is also a beating. While the reverse castle is a cool idea, the first half of the game feels more polished, whereas the second is really about finding something broken and using it to kill stuff.

If you didn't have 100% of the map in the normal castle, it might also be worth your while to go back and fill in some of the corners, perchance to pick up some rare drops and more XP. As I recall, you do have to hit most of the highlights in order to get to the reverse castle in the first place, though....
