What server are you on? And what kind of server? (PVP, Normal, RP, or RPPVP)

You can create a guild, but if you're really a first-time beginner, I highly recommend playing through from the start without people telling you what to do. To me, one of the best things about this game is discovering new areas and choosing what story lines interest you most. Or even what you want to do most, if you just want to level or if you're interested in leveling your professions a lot, or whatever else. I find that, especially since the Cataclysm release, the game does a fantastic job of leading you around without feeling like it's holding your hand, and is more newbie friendly than ever.

That said, this is how I get the most fun out of the game, but I can't really suggest any of the other ways.

What do you expect to get out of the experience?

Join an existing guild, it's like having 24/7 help chat, and a good way to meet new people

Don't play on a pvp server unless you are a masochist.

Other then that, Jules and Chris are right... just enjoy the game for yourself, burning through all the content just makes the experience less.
