Hi,

I'm new to Dominion and recently purchased Dominion and Prosperity. I was wondering if it's possible to play with the base game, Prosperity, and an additional expansion, two, or three. Or is it only possible to play say Dominion and one other expansion at a time. I am curious because I am thinking about buying Seaside as well and was wondering if I could play Dominion, Prosperity, and Seaside all in one game; or if this would even be advisable. Thanks for the input!

Yes, it's most certainly possible, and encouraged. Although Donald usually only plays with one or two expansions mixed in at a time, the most common format people seem to play with is to randomly select 10 cards from the poll of all of the expansions they own...this works just fine.

As Paul says, it's a perfectly good idea, and in fact, the more expansions, the better (except on your wallet). The way dominion adds expansions means it doesn't matter how many or how few you have, the game doesn't get (much) more complex or longer, just more varied.

I suppose if you have Black Market in play you could technically play w/ dozens of expansions at once if they existed.

All Dominion cards from all sets and expansions are intended to be completely compatible with each other. The same applies to any promo cards. Any single card can be used with every card from another expansion or with nine different cards from nine different expansions (if such a thing existed).

Sometimes, you might want to focus on just one or two sets and possibly give each card from those sets an opportunity to appear in the kingdom supply in a single gaming session. Other times, you might want to make the entire experience a bit more random and play with a little sampling from each set. And the great thing is that whatever method you choose to select your cards and expansions, it works out!

i am a big fan of the prosperity expansion. but one thing to consider when setting up a mixed game is to evaluate whether to use the colony and platinum cards in each game. if some of the more powerful cards don't come up, it may make the game drag a bit, i'll be finding out more myself, because i own the base game + prosperity, and on wednesday, i'll have hinterlands too

Not necessarily. There is no rule saying that if Colonies are in play, you must choose to go that route for victory. Don't forget that the Provinces game-end-condition still applies with Colonies in play. If there are no more powerful and/or higher cost cards available, it might be advantageous to try and rush the Provinces and just snag a Colony on occasion if you are fortunate enough to get $11. It could be hard if your opponents don't decide to jump the Province wagon as well, but if they aren't confident in their deck building they might panic and switch to Provinces, helping you clear the stack and end the game earlier.

I think the trickiest expansion to introduce is Alchemy. If you pick randomly from all expansions, you're fairly likely to end up with just 1 Alchemy card. I think the game is completely playable this way, but many people dislike it. (Also Alchemy tends to be the least popular expansion; most people in my game refuse to play with it at all.)

I think generally the advice for Alchemy is to have at least three cards out, if you have any.

I have an app on my phone that lets you set all the fiddly things like that, it even automates the Black Market pull-deck. It's a great help.

Not the biggest fan of dominion but I enjoy the game.
For me the best is just Intrigue+Seaside+Prosperity, this 3 are a nice combination. I don't like the base game too much and I despise Alchemy.
