We got a Wii for Christmas (I haven't owned a system since Atari 2600)
I have a 5 1/2 year old who does well with Wii Sports and New Mario. I plan on getting Mario Kart for him, any other recommendations?
I also have a 4 year old who has figured out how to role the bowling ball some of the time, but can't do much else. What would be a good game for him?
Thanks.

You will be amazed how fast they will master the controls. Pokepark, Picachu's adventure would be spot on.

Marshall, Beau found a video of Lego Star Wars on youtube and wanted it. I got it for the wii and he loves it. He has some trouble with the controls but it allows you to play with your boys at the exact same time as long as you have a 2nd controller. Beau loves Star Wars so this was a huge hit with him. Watch out though, I feel like I introduced him to crack.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
The fighting moves are easy to pull off and with characters they will recognize and love. Good button masher.
Wii Play
You get a free Wiimote with new copies.

Some good suggestions so far. Any of the Lego games are good. One not recommended so far is Kirby's Epic Yarn, which is good for the younger set since you don't die.
As an alternative to Mario Kart, I bought Sonic & Sega All Star Racing.
My son also had fun with the fencing in Sports Resort as well

Guilty Party
It's a kid's mystery-Clue style game. I haven't played it, but other people I've recommended it to have said it's a good choice. I'm not sure how much (if any) reading there is in it, but I think this should be good for the 5.5 year old, if not both kids.
Edit: I just looked at the comments on the game. Apparently it's a bit touch in parts for a 6 YO, so it might be a bit out of the age range you're looking at.

Oh, another one I forgot: Batman - The Brave And The Bold. I actually just got it for my son for Christmas.

I have a son who is five.
He is a big fan of the various Lego games - especially the first Indiana Jones one and the Batman one which he seems to have the easiest time playing/controlling. He is also into Animal Crossing, Super Mario Kart, and MySims Kingdom.
My daughter who is seven likes World of Zoo, MySims Kingdom, Mario Kart, and the Zelda games.
They both have a lot of fun with Wii Fit. Especially the hula hooping and the tightrope walking.
My son started off playing Wii when he was four and could not even figure out how to point the controller at the screen. Now he is a little expert. They learn fast.

The Lego games are definitely like crack for little kids.
We have all of them except Pirates of the Caribbean and the second Harry Potter one... both of which my son wants for his birthday next month.

We played Wii Party with a 3 year old. She enjoyed the game where someone hides the wii remotes and everyone else looks for them. Almost figured out how to do the animal sounds game. A 5 year old could easily do the bomb passing game. The game uses miis so it's fun for kids to look for people they know.

Seconding Wii Party -- like Wii Sports, it's great for that 'everybody and their grandma can play' quality. Playing with your own Miis is awesome as well.

I'd like to add Mario Party.

One of my boys really like Jumpstart: Pet Rescue. It was kind of glitchy though. Graphics weren't great but he didn't notice.
The Mario Party titles are GREAT for this age (and any age).
The button mashing of super smash games are good but then you have to deal with your kids running around the house making "punch" noises all the time.. that got old.

Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension is also a pretty good game at that age range, tho my 6 year old finished it in about a week.

Kirby's Epic Yarn
Great game for all ages, but definitely well suited for young kids.
