I've finally played all the way through the game (and defeated the evil "Kaos" at the end).

I'd have to say that having "extra" figures helped out (particularly during the final battle), as the number of figures that you have basically equals the number of "lives" that you have/per level.

BUT... having said that, 32 (or more) figures is just WAY TOO MANY for this game. I was able to play through the game fairly easily with around 10 (with most figures leveled up to around 8, 9, or 10).

There is really not enough game here to justify 32 figures. AND... at the date of this writing, only about HALF of those figures have even been released in stores so far.

So... to anyone reading this wondering HOW MANY of those Skylander figures should they buy for their kid... I would still say that ONE figure for each element in the game (8 elements) would be plenty. Perhaps a FEW more if there is a "favorite" character that they want (or if, even with 8 figures, they are still having a hard time getting through the game).

I REALLY hope that they decide to make a sequel to this game (that uses the same figures)... because if they don't, I'll kind of feel like I spent WAY TOO MUCH money for just the one game.

At the very least, I expect more adventure packs and maybe some DLC next year, with a full sequel in 2013. I think sales were way too high to abandon it.

I'm with you on the figures though. One from each element is plenty. The more figures you own the less likely you can level them up without replaying the game. Personally, my idea of replayability is not playing it over to level up more characters.

I REALLY hope that Activision (or whomever) is working on a sequel RIGHT NOW!! It certainly seems like they should be with the popularity of the game.

For anyone looking to pick up more Skylander figures, right now (anyway) most major retail stores seem to be practically SOLD OUT of them.

Yesterday, I drove around to a Target, 2 different Meijer stores, and a Best Buy store only to find NOTHING but the starter pack.

I don't know HOW LONG it will take for retailers to get some new stock of these figures, but for right now they are GONE...

Pretty sure the sequel is being worked on although I wouldn't expect a release before Christmas of next year (if then). Ideally, developers take at least 2-3 years on the sequel. As for retailers being out of stock, that's pretty typical the week after Christmas for all toys and games. This shouldn't be a surprise.

The restock date I've heard around the interwebs is the week of January 15th. No idea how credible those are.

I'm sure they have long term plans for the line otherwise they would not have invested so much into the game.

I'll probably wait till the WiiU version comes out. I've heard the handheld versions are not as deep as the home console version so I passed on this game.

Haven't heard of this game. Is it like a new Pokemon or something?

Kind of...

It comes with 3 starting sculptured figures and a "portal". The portal acts as a reader in which you place your figure and that figure appears in the game world. As you level up, the stats are saved onto the sculpture and you can take it over to a friend's house and play it on his system. I'm not sure but I think they are cross platform compatible. I do know that you can take the sculpture you played with on the 3DS to the Wii and play it using that figure.

It's a neat idea but there is something like 30 figures and each cost around $8. The game comes complete but you can only unlock certain regions with the correct figure.

The figures are beautifully sculpted and I've heard the gameplay is simplistic but fun.

If they did this for Shin Megami Tensei, I would be in trouble...

I'll just add that even though there are 32+ figures for the game, you really only need ONE figure to play all the way through to the end. Yes, you won't be able to open up A LOT of areas in the various levels with only ONE figure, but you can still play through the game.

How it REALLY helps in having more figures is that the number of figures that you have is basically like the number of "lives" that you have per level. If one figures hit points go down to zero, just take it off of the portal and put another figure on and continue fighting.

Also, the figures each belong to a specific element (like earth, fire, wind, and so on...). There are eight different elements... so, in my opinion... having ONE figure from each element (for a total of 8 figures) is plenty for the game (and it also will allow you to unlock the majority of the game as well).

I wouldn't call the 360/ps3/wii version as deep. It's still a light action RPG. Fight minimal enemies, get money, buy power upgrades.

Well... that looks pretty cool.

I'm sure glad that we're getting a new "Skylanders" game. There were really TOO MANY figures made for just "ONE" game.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to defeat Kaos if I didn't have deep benches.
