Hey guys, I just saw after today's update on steal that there are mods for skyrim, one of them even has the benefit of changing that stupid UI of the game. I have a few questions though:
1. Anyone installed them? Do they really change the game? 2. How do you install them? 3. How do you uninstall them if you no longer want? 4. Do they interferer with achievements?

1. I've personally used some mods, nothing too drastic, just some for textures. Since the creation kit isn't out yet, the current mods aren't too complex or big, most of them just overriding the game's default resources, like mesh replacers for armor or whatever (don't worry about breaking your game, I'm no codemonkey but as far as I can tell, Skyrim checks the /data directory for files placed and uses these in lieu of default game resources. If the files are removed, it defaults back to the default game resources pack in the in-game files/archives). When the creation kit finally comes out, expect more complex mods like the ones we got in Oblivion or Fallout. Of course, the amount of change depends upon the mod used. UI changes aren't really big, but help a lot of you hate that console tailored UI. For reference, a lot of the ideas and concepts from Skyrim actually came from or were made possible with mods in Oblivion, such as the special/camera kills, dual wielding, companions, new types of spells, and level system overhauls. Some modding teams even overhauled the whole game.
2. In most cases, you can just use the mod manager for easy installation and removal. Alternatively, you can manually unpack the files and place them in the required directories under skyrim's install and /data folder. Removing them is then a matter of deleting the files you've placed.
3. See above. Note that ease of un-installation is dependent on the mod. In most cases though, its just a matter of deleting files, specially if the mod doesn't conflict with another one.
4. Nope not really, unless some guy makes a mod that's meant to do so.

I only use one mod at them moment, but I love it: the Skyrim Mining 300 addition. All it does is change the colour of ore veins to something really bright, so you can actually notice them in the ground. Endlessly annoying otherwise, as I'm sure you've noted.
It's just a file unzipped into the /data directory and doesn't seem to affect the game at all in a negative way

I am running a few mods at the moment. I am slowly working through the game for the first time and I'm trying to enjoy it the way it was initially intended. The mods I'm using are mostly tweaks to make the interfaces easier.
The mods I'm running currently can all be found at http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/index.php.
1) Quality World Map with Roads http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4929
- Although I love wandering the countryside, I really hated that the world map had no decent road markings. Now, I can still explore, but I can choose to wander my way to a location via roads.
2) SkyUI http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863
-Essential. Makes the menus infinitely easier to use on a PC. -You will need the Skyrim Script Extender which you can get at http://skse.silverlock.org/
3) Categorized Favorites Menu http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4862
-Another big improvement, this time to the Favorites.
4) RWT Realistic Water Textures http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=711
-The one aesthetic addition. The water just looks MUCH better with this mod.
There are tons of interesting mods out there that will tweak everything from dragon difficulty to smithing to new buildings. Things are about to grow exponentially as soon as Bethesda releases a Construction Kit.
Definitely download the Mod Manager and follow the installation instructions on the download pages. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/content/modmanager/
If you are interested in seeing mods in action, there's a guy on YouTube who has a number of excellent walkthroughs and reviews.

Hope this helps.
