In the review, I read that game data is stored on the RFID chip on the fig.
How does this work if you're playing: if I play the game will I be forced to use my sons figs with their inherent data? (So only way to get a 'blank' fig is to buy a copy) Or can you run several simultaneous campaigns, where the figs have different stats depending on which Wii user is playing the game?
(Maybe a dumb Q; bear in mind we now own the game for a day...)

Yes. This is the big weakness of the gimmick they are using. I still like the game, but I would really like to develop the characters on my own. As it is, we get a new Skylander and before I even try it, it's already leveled up and maxed out, etc. from my kids playing.

You can erase the stats and start over, but you can't run separate versions of them.

Thanks for the quick response.
Then the Q pops in my head: it is possible to run several campaigns simultaneous?

Stop this discussion at once, before you get me starting with this game, too
. But luckily I have no friends with this game, so I don't feel tempted to start with it because they would have the game.

I don't know if you've figured it out yet, but basically you only have ONE campaign that you can play through at a time.
There's no option of say, saving ONE game under "Roberts" name, and then saving another game under "Craigs" name. It can't be done that way, sadly.
Just one campaign at a time.

I didn't. My son's been playing while I was at work. I did notice however, that there are five separate 'safe slots'. What are they for, if you can only run 1 campaign?

Okay... I guess I didn't know what I was talking about.
The Wii version has 4 seperate save slots... so that would allow for 4 seperate campaigns. The figures, however, don't “reset” for each individual campaign.
Sorry for the mis-information.

Maybe you should just buy a second copy of each fig.
There is some logic to it. Since each figure has two branching paths for skills. You could have a Drobot that specializes in sawblades (your kids), and one that specializes in lasers (yours).

Ya, that's something that a Skylanders "newbie" probably wouldn't know about (the 2 different branches that you choose from when powering up your character).
When you get to a certain point of powering up your figure, you have to choose which way to continue powering up (from 2 branches). So... in that respect, having 2 of the same figure would allow you to power up BOTH (with ONE figure choosing one branch, and the other figure going the other way).
That's not a bad idea, really.

When I didn't have a preference I always went with the track that used the X button [PS3]

You don't really need duplicates of figures. If you have two players, just buy two different characters of the same element type. There has been at least two of each element since last fall. For example, my daughter always used Zap and I used Gill Grunt. You really want two of each element anyway, so you can both unlock the bonus areas and get the experience/gold element bonus.
As for using the same figures in different campaigns, if you start up a new save slot, you may want to go into the ownership menu and "take ownership". If the figure was already claimed in another save slot, it won't automatically add to your collection in the new save slot. As far as I can tell, there is no negative to taking ownership in as many save games as you wish. Your ownership is maintained in the previous save slots.
