I'm looking for a new set of wired headphones with a mic. My old set is starting to fall apart. I'm considering going for surround sound this time. Any recommendations?

I got myself a Turble Beach P11 headset last year and I love it. I've worn it for hours at a time without getting uncomfortable, great sound, in-line amplifier and volume control, durable, and I don't even notice that the mic exists when I'm not using it.

I have a Logitech G35 headset. It's quite comfortable, but at the same time it's hard for me to recommend them, as the fabric on the earpads is badly fraying, and I was unable to obtain replacements from Logitech regardless of being willing to pay for them.
Also, it's worth noting that prior to my last CPU upgrade (from Core2Duo E8400, to Core i5-2400) some games that were CPU bottlenecking did take a bit of a performance hit when using surround sound.

I have a pair of Grado Labs SR60 headphones that came highly regarded for their price point by some friends of mine on Gamefaqs.

Note that I did not do any price point comparison, just linked to Amazon since I knew they would be there.
NVM, I see you want a mic.

Another recommendation for Turtle Beach here. I'm currently sat with an X-11 headset on and really like it. It works on both the xbox and PC too

I've tried many of the ones mentioned in this thread but the only pair I own are Logitech G-35s. Amazing sound, super comfy, and a really nice extra long braided (not plastic) cord make these one of your top options. Another cool feature is that the boom mike, when flipped up, turns off the mic AND there's an excellent roll-wheel volume control knob on the left headphone itself, making it super easy to adjust your volume on the fly without a hassle.
Highly recommend them.

Steelseries 5Hv2. They have pretty good sound (tuned to the high end for FPS games), they are comfortable even with my big ears, and they break down for transport to LANs.

Or is it as other headsets with an optional USB-sound card? Because I don't want software 3D but use the hardware 3D of my soundcard (performance issues etc.).
The info on the LogiTech page are as stupid as their drivers.

And there is no way to plug them into the audio jacks of a sound card. I don't think the drivers play nicely with additional audio hardware either. If your gaming is CPU bottlenecked, I would not recommend using the G35. And this is coming from someone who owns a pair and is quite happy with them. But in the past when I had CPU bottlenecking issues, using the G35s caused a performance hit.

I currently use a G330 and only the mic of it (as I have a head too big for most headsets). But when you have multiple people who use their mic with normal speakers you get quite an ugly feedback loop.
So I was quite interested in getting a solid surround headset (wouldn't like to miss my current surround setup) that doesn't kill my CPU. It is normally fast enough for whatever but I wouldn't want to pass by my sound card completely.

Any experience with the Sennheiser PC 360 G4ME?

I have the exact same set as well. I don't use it with PC but with Xbox. I've had some problems with a humming noise using it with the wireless controller, but discovered that goes away once you unplug the controller for the charging cord. Otherwise this has been a good headset.
