If I enchant a weapon with lightning, it has the added effect of doing half damage to the magicka of the target.

If I have a weapon that does 20 damage and enchant it with a +2 lightning enchantment. The weapon does a total damage of 22, but how much magicka does the ennemy loses?

is it 1/2 of 22 which means 11 damage to magicka

or is it 1/2 or 2 which means 1 damage to magicka

I believe it is 1/2 of the lightning damage so 1 damage to magicka. whistle

I believe this to be correct as well. The additional magicka/stamina damage that can be done with elemental attacks may seem superficially weak at low levels, but they get to be pretty significant at higher levels. Popping it on a weapon using Enchant 100 and a grand soul will net some pretty significant effects.

Thanks for the info.

Speaking of grand soul gem. I am trying to soul trap bandits (bigger souls), but it never works, I imagine that I need better conjuration skills to be able to trap larger souls.

Human souls (like bandits) require black soul gems, so that is why its not working. You can use Grand soul gems on most anything else, though. Black soul gems are great for enchanting as well.

Black Soul gems!?

My girl friend did not say anything about it (She has a game more advanced than I do. I am the newbie, she is the expert).

So for a grand soul gem I would need a very large creature like a giant for example. It probably does not work on dragons (since you get the soul differently).

Black soul gems are only for humans only or it includes all race of humanoids (Elf, Orc, etc) maybe except Falmers?

Black soul gems are needed for sentient humanoids (Nords, Orcs, Bosmer, etc). Grand soul gems can absorb any soul except those of sentient humanoids (and dragons). They also absorb Falmer souls. You do have to be careful with your grand soul gems and make sure they don't absorb a common soul - then they are kinda wasted. Absorbing the soul of a giant or mammoth would be a good use of a grand soul gem.

Below is a list copied from http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Soul_Gem_%28Skyrim%29 that you may find useful.

Petty Soul Gem 0.1 10 250 Can hold creature souls below level 4.
Lesser Soul Gem 0.2 25 500 Can hold creature souls below level 16.
Common Soul Gem 0.3 50 1000 Can hold creature souls below level 28.
Greater Soul Gem 0.4 100 2000 Can hold creature souls below level 38.
Grand Soul Gem 0.5 200 3000 Can hold any soul, excluding those of Humanoids (e.g. Imperials, Khajiit, etc.)
Black Soul Gem 1 500 1 Can hold any souls, including souls of Humanoids.
Soul Gem Fragment 0.1 5 0 Cannot hold souls.

Not really. You can drop soul gems, which removes their charge.

That's weird, because you can find soul gems already charged. So if you pick up and drop it, they just discharge?

About discharging, I sometimes find in my cabinet soul gems that are discharged, but I remember only placing charged soul gems in them. Is it possible that some of them could discharge with time?

Yes

It seems unlikely, but I guess something could happen when the area of the map they are in is refreshed. If you are using the default UI then accidental selection of items during transfer is very easy to do. The sort order of items with the same name is not consistent, and changes every time an item is removed from the inventory, allowing accidents to easily occur.

Well that is cool - I never knew that! Might have to drop a few soul gems tonight.... did that sound like something illegal?
