I played Ambush a while back and have started playing again. In Mission 1, had a German soldier run out of ammunition. Do Grenades count as backup weapons? He probably won't be able to come up with another weapon but he does have a grenade.

Thanks for any help.

First off, I believe the German soldiers only run out of ammunition in response to a paragraph check. Beyond that I know that there are German paragraphs that specifically mention grenades for those German soldier that carry them and there are also Germans that have a pistol and another weapon. So I would say that if a paragraph calls for a German soldier to fire a weapon and they are out of ammo they will not throw a grenade instead because there may be specific paragraphs that will call on the German soldier to use his grenades in specific situations. So if a soldier is out of ammo and is supposed to fire they will just not fire but will carry out every other part of the paragraph that they are able to fulfill.

Although not certain I would of thought that any German who runs out of ammo would have a special action or special preservation in place, maybe worth rechecking if you can.

Yeah. It was due to an Event at the beginning of the next round.

Thanks. I had thought I had read something about not being able to use grenades, but I couldn't find it. Later, I checked The Battle Hymn rules and finally found it there and then in the same place in the Ambush rules. Just wasn't where I was expecting it to be.

That would make a great deal of sense but probably add a lot of complication to the game. As far as I can tell, unless a special reaction is specifically put into effect, the only one is self-preservation when US soldiers are adjacent or in the same hex.

Thanks for the comments.
