User Summary

Arkay is the god of burials, funeral rites, and the seasons. He is part of the Eight now Nine Divines and son of Akatosh. He is sometimes called the ‘Mortals God’ since he did not exist before Lorkhan created Mundus (universe and planet Nirn where TES takes place).

Two different stories exist as to how he came into being:

The first says he was a shopkeeper with a passion for knowledge and one day found a book written in a strange language which he spent years attempting to decipher and slowly ignored everything and everyone around him until he realized the book explained life and death itself but by that time death was at his door. He prayed to Mara and asked for more time to interpret the book and was given the choice to die now or to become a god eternally charged with keeping the balance of life and death in the universe.

The second says he was one of the first spirits to "crystallize" after Akatosh threw himself into Mundus and the start of time began.

Those who follow his teachings are staunch opponents of necromancy and all forms of the undead.

He created the Sword of the Crusader for Pelinal Whitestrake to help him defeat Umaril the Unfeathered.
