There are many chess games in the database; this list documents many of them although there are enough variants that it likely is not entirely comprehensive, as some variants are listed under odd or non-intuitive names.

- BS Chess (Bluffing Style Chess) (6x6 board, Stratego-like, and allows players to make illegal moves)
- Elemental Chess (9x9 board. Players have an "Elementalist" that can summon other pieces, or cast spells on the board)
- Gala (10x10 board with different and special piece movement)
- Grand Chess (10x10 board with 2 additional pieces, Marshall and Cardinal)
- Kaissa (10x10, based on the fictional world of Gor)
- Ministers Chess (9x9 board, each player gets an extra pawn, and two ministers, which replace the queen)
- Modern Chess (9x9 board, each player gets an extra pawn, and a minister who moves like a knight or a bishop)
- Mutant Chess (6x6 board, pieces can combine and split to form more powerful/less powerful pieces)
- Omega Chess (10x10 board, with added pieces Wizard and Champion)
- QQChess (13x13, "Traitorous" pieces, and "bouncing" knights)
- Quad Quest Chess (12x12, Accommodates 2,3, or 4)
- Shako (10x10 board, with pieces taken from Xiangqi)

- Capablanca chess (10x8 board, adds Chancellor and Archbishop pieces)
- Courier Chess (12x8 board, adds new pieces including Courier, Counselor, and Spy)
- Chessword (14x8 board, plays like normal chess, but the goal is not to capture opponent's king, but rather to land on letters on the board in a proscribed order to spell a word)
- Choiss (64 board pieces, with modular play to dynamically build the board, normal pieces)
- Dodl Schach (6x4 board, each player has queen, king, and two pawns)
- Dragon Chess (16x10, with 3x3 cut from each corner. Additional two "Dragon" pieces per player, and expanded field of 124 squares)
- Eurasian Chess (XiangQi board, adds in various pieces from other chess games.)
- Gothic Chess (10x8 board with additional pieces)
- Half-board Chess (4x8 board where players arrange their 16 pieces secretly on their half)
- Millennium Chess (8x15 Chessboard with twice as many pieces per player, but only three rooks, not four)
- Quadroschach (12x12, with 2x2 cut from each corner. Chess variant for 2 players (using a bigger board), 3 players (2 vs. 1) or 4 players (teams or individual))
- Quattro Schach (14x14, with 3x3 cut from each corner. Chess variant that plays up to four players)
- Quick Chess (5x6, teaching tool)
- Regimental Chess (14x14, pieces move individually or in battalions)
- Renaissance Chess (10x12, each player has 34 pieces)
- Schach Plus (64 board pieces, with modular play to dynamically build the board. Chess variant of some sort)

Circular Board Variants
2-Player Variants
- Byzantine Chess Uses a 16 X 4 circular board with unplayable center ring.
- Centre Chess Uses a 18 X 4 circular board, play across the center pole is allowed.
- CHECKCHESS RoundBoard The circular board consists of eight rings of eight spaces each. White sets up in the center, black at the edge.
- Circular Chess (1983 - David B Reynolds) Uses a 16 X 4 circular board with unplayable center ring like Byzantine Chess but has different rules.
- Circular Chess (2001 - Martin and Alan Mattlage) The board has a ninth diameter (file) added, but with unplayable spaces in the first two circles (ranks), preventing pieces in the first rank directly attacking each other.
- Cirondo The board has 8 rings of 32 spaces, a center region of four space with special rules, and accommodates 2,3, or 4 players.
- Global Chess Two linked circular boards each 4 rings of 8 spaces where play wraps around as though they were a sphere.
- Orbital Chess Playable by 2, 3, and 4. 2 and 4 player uses a 6 ring, 32 space board with special center area movement. 3 player has 4 rings of 30, with 3 areas each separated by two spaces attached to the outside of the rings of 2 arcs of 8 spaces. The center also has special move rules.
- QUAD - Galactic Chess Circular board, unknown dimensions, 2 or 4 players.
- Infinite Chess Àn 'infinity board'- Two circular boards of 4 ranks of 7 spaces, next to each other, with an interconnecting area between the circles replaces with a 4x4 square grid.
3-Player Variants
- 3 Man Chess The board has six rings of 24 spaces. This is a 3-way-only variant.
- Cirondo The board has 8 rings of 32 spaces, a center region of four space with special rules, and accommodates 2,3, or 4 players.
