Federation Commander series

This game was created as a simpler, faster version of Star Fleet Battles. The goal was to design a game that could be played "out of the box" with laminated ship diagram cards, color counters. etc., and that was "clearer, faster, and cleaner" than Star Fleet Battles.

Federation Commander is essentially Star Fleet Battles with easier rules and a faster play time. Star Fleet Battles Captain's Edition also remains in print alongside Federation Commander.

Part of the Star Fleet Universe.

Base Sets

Federation Commander: Klingon Border and Federation Commander: Romulan Border are the main base sets. Each is a complete game. The base sets have everything needed to play, including the complete rulebook, laminated ship diagram cards for 16 ships, 1" color counters, 1/2" color counters, double-sided map boards (one side for 1/2" counters, and one side for 1" counters or miniatures), etc. Federation Commander: Klingon Border originally only had the rules needed to play the ships included in that product, but it now has the same rulebook as Federation Commander: Romulan Border.

Amarillo Design Bureau does sell products (Klingon Space and Romulan Space) to add the non-duplicated parts of the base sets. IE: If you own Klingon Border, you can buy Romulan Space to get the Ship Cards and Ship Counters introduced in Romulan Border.

Federation Commander: Academy was desgined as lower-cost introductory product. It includes the complete rule book, but with only four ship cards, and a paper map. The idea was to create a product half the price (by reducing the ship cards, and not including the 1" counters and double-sided map boards) of a full base set to allow customers to determine if they liked the game.

Expansions

These are large expansions for the base sets. These require a complete base set: Federation Commander: Klingon Border or Federation Commander: Romulan Border to use. Each generally has more ships, ship cards, ship counters, scenarios, and additional specialized map boards for use with Federation Commander: Klingon Border or Federation Commander: Romulan Border.

Federation Commander: Briefing #1 (2008) adds 6 ship variants, two dozen scenarios, as well as articles for the game.

Federation Commander: Line of Battle provides an expansion to Federation Commander: Battleships Attack, with duplicate ship cards and new scenarios.

Megahex

The Federation Commander series can also be used with larger 1-1.25" (or larger) hex maps and their full-sized (1" square) counters. Amarillo Design Bureau has released a product with extra counters of those in the game, titled "Megahex", which can be used to expand player's fleets.
