Feel the love

This wiki page was created to help new (and old) users who stumble across the Feel the love sub-forum and don't know what is is about.

History

It all started with this thread (at that time still in BGG General): Feel the love! Free thumbs & GG to be had for all., which was originally created by Stormparkiet in 2008.

After 1309 days the thread had accumulated over 4400 pages (or 111652 posts, to be exact) and had to be locked by the Admins, because its size was slowing down the servers. They also declared that future threads would now be capped and locked once they hit 1000 pages to prevent any server issues again.

As a result the BoardGameGeek Community sub-forums were announced, with an entire Feel the love sub-forum dedicated to all things love related.

Aenea then created the Feel the Love - Second Age - Thread #1 thread where things continued as before, just in a new environment. That thread reached 1000 pages after exactly 3 months, so Feel the Love - Second Age - Thread #2 continues.

Words, terms and expressions used in this forum

dikke knuffel = this is Dutch and means "big hugs"

hoopy = from a book called, "White Plume Mountain", by Paul Kidd. The fairy character Escalla in the book uses the word all the time, and it means "happy" or "something good". Also used by Douglas Adams in his "Hitchiker's Guide" series.

Moin / Moin Moin = This informal greeting originates in East Frisia, Southern Schleswig (including North Frisia and Flensburg), Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the eastern Netherlands and Southern Jutland in Denmark, meaning "hello", "all's well" or "how are you?", and can be used at any time of the day.

thumb bombing = to manually thumb all comments (and sometimes also pictures) of a user to raise his or her amount of thumbs received

thriend = thread-friend, aka someone you really like, but have only met in the thread; many thriends have become friends over the years (in real life, or even online, because of long distances) - the term was coined by Engoduun
