Events
Q: If Dracula plays Unearthly Swiftness and makes two moves by road, does he get to place two encounters?
A: No. Dracula gets to move twice. His action phase only occurs once. Therefore, there will only be an encounter placed on the second location that he moves to.
Q: If, due to the play of Unearthly Swiftness, 2 maturable encounters drop off the trail, can they both be matured?
A: A strict reading of the rules indicates that both encounters would drop off the trail before it is cleared, which would allow both to mature, however as this would be potentially game breaking(IMO) in the case of 2 New Vampires, Dracula may choose 1 of the 2 encounters to mature. Whichever encounter is chosen, the other may be sent to the catacombs with its location card.
Q: When the hunters play Hired Scouts and select one of the locations on Dracula's Trail, and Dracula plays Sensationalist Press, what happens?
A: The location is not revealed. The hunters do not even know which of the two locations is not revealed. If both locations were on the Trail, Dracula would have to reveal one of them. If neither was on the Trail, Dracula could not have played Sensationalist Press. Sensationalist Press does not stop the revelation of encounters, so any encounters on the locations discovered by Scouts would be revealed in any case.
Q: When the hunters play Hired Scouts and select one of the locations on Dracula's Trail, and Dracula used Hide to stay on that location, what happens?
A: The location is revealed together with any encounter on it. The Hide card is not revealed, nor is any encounter on that card.
Q: If a hunter enters Dracula's location, and there is no encounter chit on that location, but the hunter passes the East-West border or the location is a harbor, can Dracula play Customs Search?
A: Yes.
Q: Can Customs Search be played on a hunter who uses Sense of Emergency to leave a sea location?
A: Yes. There is a FAQ ruling that it can be played on a hunter who uses Sense of Emergency to go from East to West, or vice versa, without directly crossing the border. Leaving the sea without directly entering a port is analogous to that.
Q: Can Wild Horses be used to avoid the effect of a Vampire Lair event?
A: Wild Horses can only be played on a fight in Dracula's current location, so unless this unlikely situation arises the answer is No.
Q: Exactly how far can Dracula move a Hunter with Control Storms?
A: The wording says 3 sea moves, which are defined in the rules as embarking, sailing, and disembarking. So when using this card movement is limited to up to 2 Sailing moves plus exactly 1 disembarking move.
Q: If a minion is defeated in combat, but then reappears due to Relentless Minion, does he stay on the board if the combat ends without defeat the second time?
A: Yes.
Encounters
Q: If a hunter meets a New Vampire at night, the die roll is 4-6, and the hunter lets the New Vampire escape, does his turn end?
A: Yes.
Fights
Q: If a hunter fights a minion on Dracula's location, what happens after the hunter defeats the minion?
A: If the hunter defeats the minion, he then fights Dracula or deals with the next encounter if there is one. However, if the hunter manages to escape the minion, his turn ends and he does not fight Dracula or take any further action.
Q: If Dracula has only two blood left, and he is in a fight with a hunter, and Sister Agatha is in play, can Dracula use Fangs or try to Escape?
A: No. Dracula cannot take an action if that would bring his blood to zero or less.
Q: Can Dracula use Escape as Bat or Fangs if he would have no legal move in the event he won the combat roll (all locations with 2 moves either occupied by hunters or already in the trail)?
A: No.
Dracula's Powers
Q: Can Dracula play multiple powers in the same trail location?
A: Generally No, but Wolf Form may be played in combination with Hide OR Double Back.
Q: If Dracula escapes from a fight as a bat or bites a hunter using Fangs, the location card using for his current location is replaced by a new location. What happens to any power card (Wolf Form/Double Back) on the same position on the trail.
A: The Power Card(s) remain in the same space on the trail.
Q: Can Dracula Double Back to a Sea zone?
A: If Dracula starts his turn on land, he may use Double Back to embark to a sea zone already in the trail. If he is at already at sea he is prohibited from using any of his powers.
Q: How is Hide affected by events which reveal locations?
A: Although is looks like a location from the back. Hide is not a location card and so, as a general rule Hide is not revealed by such cards. Specific exceptions arise for events which reveal locations based on their position in the trail (Newspaper Reports. Hypnosis), where it may be necessary to reveal the Hide card to demonstrate that it is not in fact a location.
Similarly encounters on Hide are not revealed with the exceptions being Hypnosis which reveals all vampires in the trail without regard to what type of card they are on. Also Local Rumours, which reveals encounters based on position in the trail, not type of card.
Character Special Abilities
Q: When Mina is in a small city, can she draw only an item?
A: If Mina chooses to resupply in a small city, she MUST draw an event, she may then draw an item or a second event using her Organised ability.
Other
Q: How does Dracula perform his first turn of the game?
A: The hunters all take up their starting position. For his first turn of the game, Dracula places the turn progression marker on Dawn, and places the location card for his starting position on the Trail. He does not place an encounter. That's it.
Q: Can Dracula double back at sea, if the trail has been cleared due to maturation of an encounter?
A: No, this is not possible except that it would now be possible to return to the same port, if affected by Stormy Seas.
