Game Search
Searching in Games will find any and all games whose titles matches or contains the search text. This includes alternate titles for games - especially useful when looking for non-English games. Any game titles that exactly match the search text are listed at the top of the list; thus, searching for "Stop" will put the game Stop at the top of the list followed by all games with the text "stop" in them - e.g. Christopher Columbus, Dead Stop, Pit Stop and Sevastopol.
If there is only 1 result found you will be taken straight to the matching Game Page.
If the search results are more than 500 then, if no exact matches are found, you are warned that there are more than 500 results and offered the choice of viewing the results or doing a different search. If the search text is matched, you are shown the exact matches and offered the option to view the full 500+ results. In this way you can find a game such as "Ra" easily without having to look through hundreds of other games.
The search is an "inclusive and" search in that, all game titles that contain the search text are included in the results and, where you enter two or more pieces of text separated by spaces then only those game titles that contain ALL of the search strings will be included in the results. So, if you enter "knight war" you will see games that contain the text "knight" AND the text "war", but not games that contain either the text "knight" OR the text "war". Thus, "knight war" will find Warrior Knights and Star Wars: Jedi Knights CCG but not Galactic Knights or War of the Ring.
If your search returns no results, but you expected it to, try using fewer characters in your text strings, or try alternative spellings; e.g. search for knight rather than knights or carc instead of carcassonne, or search for tonight instead of tonite.
There are many instances in the BGG database of two games with the same title but which are completely different games. To aid you in finding the right game, the search results include the following fields:
- Name (Game Title)
- Year of Publication
- Info Button
- Rating
- BGG Rating
- Plays
- Own/Trade/Want
- Edit
- Comments/Condition
When you find the game you are looking for, just click on the game name to go to that game's Game Page.
A secondary use of the search results is to allow you to edit/update your games collection information on BGG. To aid this, several of the fields in the search results are editable.
Name (Game Title)
The full name/title of the game. If this name is an alternative/different name than that used in the BGG database it will be shown as "Game Name is an alternate name of Game XXX". Not editable.
Year of Publication
The year of publication is the first recorded publication year of that game, not the publication date of the last released version. Thus, a game may appear older than you expect. Not editable.
Info Button
Clicking on the Info Button brings up a small window containing a snapshot of the information held about the game: Game Title, BGG Game ID, Year Published, Number of Players, Designer(s), Publisher(s), a few lines of the game's Description, and some sample images of that game. You can use this information to confirm if this is the game you are looking for. Not editable.

This is your personal rating for this game - if you have given it one. To add/change ratings click on the Rating box of the game you want to change the rating for.
BGG Rating
This is the BGG Rank for the game - not the User Rating - see BoardGameGeek_FAQ for more information. Not editable.

The number of times you have recorded that you have played this game using the BGG system. To record the playing of a game, click on the Plays box for a given game and fill in the small form that appears. You can record multiple plays on a single day or single plays on multiple days as well.

Whether you have recorded that you Own the game, Want the Game or are Trading the game. To change this, click on the Own, Trade, Want box for a given game and fill in the form that appears. You can also record whether you want the game and how badly you want it.
Edit
Clicking on the Edit button for a game will bring up a form that allows you to add/change the following information for a game: Rating, Own/Trade/Want, Game Weight and Comments. This is the same as filling out the Your Collection section on each game's Game Page.
