GeekChat

Overview

GeekChat allows on-line users to chat (group instant message) with other users who are on-line and on the chat interface.

This allows real time discussions, but does not record such discussions (unlike forum threads).

GeekChat requires that Java be enabled in your browser.

Formatting

  • GeekChat allows all standard BGG forum formatting commands.
  • BGG emoticons are supported.
  • BGG image links, game links, etc. are supported.

Chat Commands

  • In addition to formatting, a few standard chat interface "slash" commands are supported.
    • A slash "/" or "/me" can be used for an emote. Example: Typing "/ is happy with his new purchase" would show up in the chat window as "YourUserName is happy with his new purchase"
    • Private messages can be accomplished by a "/tell UserName, or by clicking on the plus icon "+" next to a person's user name in the list in the user list on the left.

Rooms

  • Clicking the "CreateRoom" link on the left will prompt you for a title for your new room, create a new discussion area (room), and place you in it. Others may join your discussion room by clicking on the "join" link next to your room title.
  • The Room title should be descriptive of the intended topic (example: Looking for Brettspielwelt players)
  • When the last person leaves a room, the room is deleted.

(work in progress)
