Love Spreader of the Week

History

The idea of a Love-Spreader-of-the-Week (LSotW or alternately LSW) was created spontaneously by Stormparkiet in this post on page 208 of the thread entitled "Feel the love! Free thumbs & GG to be had for all" (commonly referred to as the "Love Thread") on Nov 30, 2009. It does not appear that he had intended to start a new institution, but support for a formal way of recognizing a LSotW was voiced soon after the first remark was made. 10.5 hours after the post linked above, Stormparkiet posted a geeklist entitled "Feel the love! - Love-Spreader of the Week celebration geeklist"

What is expected of the LSotW During His/Her Week?

The main responsibility of the LSotW is to answer questions, to the best of their ability, from other users interested in learning more about him or her. It has also become traditional, as with the GotW, for the LSotW to post "two truths and a lie" about him or herself, and to allow other users to speculate which is the lie. The lie is generally revealed by the LSotW before announcing a successor.

The Nomination Process

The nomination process for LSotW differs from that of GotW in that the current LSotW chooses and introduces their successor, often without informing them. The nominee is chosen based on their "outstanding acts of love, gentleness, respect, and otherwise positive traits." The selection of a LSotW is not restricted by any geographic limitations as is the case with the GotW. Although the LSotW is frequently chosen from among the contributors to the "Love Thread," it is not a requirement that a person post in that thread to be chosen. In fact some previous nominees have not even been aware of the "Love Thread."

• When the incoming LSotW has been chosen (originally on Mondays, but now on Saturday or early on Sunday) the outgoing LSotW will post an item on the Feel the love! - Love-Spreader of the Week celebration geeklist.
• The outgoing LSotW will send a geekmail to an admin (ironically, the duties are handled by the Chaotic Evil stargate) with a link to the profile page of the incoming LSotW, and to the LSotW microbadge so that it can be awarded.
• The new LSotW should be added to the list below.
• If the incoming LSotW is not already aware, the outgoing LSotW will notify him/her by geekmail, and pass along a link to this page.
